Fair Trade Coffee
I am almost embarrassed to admit that I had never paid much attention to fair trade coffee before. I recently received a package of Fair Trade Coffees from Green Mountain, and now that I have learned more about it, it makes perfect sense to support Fair Trade coffee
What is Fair Trade?
Basically Fair Trade means that farmers are guaranteed a minimum price for their harvest, and that they can invest in their crops, communities and their future. Since coffee prices fluctuate so much, farmers never know how much they will be paid for their beans. Many times farmers struggle when coffee prices fall below production costs, and they can’t produce good coffee. Thanks to Fair Trade, farmers are better able to feed their families, keep their children in school, and improve their homes.
Drinking Fair Trade coffees can make a difference! When you choose to drink Fair Trade coffee, you can make a difference for family farmers around the world. Since I already love coffee (especially Green Mountain!), this really doesn’t require anything extra on my part.
Since October is Fair Trade Month, Green Mountain now offers the largest selection of Fair Trade Certified coffees in the United States. Their “Better Quality for All” campaign is to educate consumers on the importance of Fair Trade. You can learn more about this campaign on the Green Mountain Coffee’s Facebook page.
As I mentioned above, I received several different blends from Green Mountain Coffee Fair Trade coffees. I was really anxious to try these, and they did not disappoint! Each blend was packed full of flavor, and each was bold – just the way I like my coffee. Oh, and the Fair Trade Pumpkin Spice? Heavenly! It is the perfect time of year to enjoy this comforting coffee. Of course, I can drink Pumpkin Spice coffee year round 🙂 The Colombian Fair Trade Select is another of my favorites.
There are many more Free Trade flavors available, other than what I received, and I am anxious to try them all. A few I really want to try are the Vanilla Caramel, Wild Mountain Blueberry (yum!), and Cafe Almond Biscotti.
I really hope you will try a few of Green Mountain Coffee Fair Trade varieties. I am so happy that I learned about Fair Trade, and since I am a huge coffee fanatic, I can also help the farmers and their families by doing something I already do – purchase coffee!
