Hershey’s Chocolate

The brunt of holiday feasting is over and so begins the cliché resolutions of getting fit. After we’ve all packed on the pounds with the overload of goodies, it’s probably a good time to get our butts back in gear, right? Wrong! The holidays aren’t over yet, people! Hold onto those resolutions for a few more days! Now, I’m all for exercising and staying healthy but I’m also not one for completely omitting things from my life; chocolate being one of them. Typically, I’m not really a big fan of candies. Most of our Halloween candy lasts until Easter and, then, our Easter candy lasts us until Halloween rolls around again. However, when the winter holidays come along, we always have plenty of it. Not necessarily for ourselves but for others. The kids and I get big into baking during the holidays and love sharing our creations with family and friends. For most of these creations, there is only one candy that is our go to and that is HERSHEY’S.

HERSHEY'S Logo

I’ve been a huge fan of the brand since I was a kid. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were always the first things devoured upon getting home from trick-or-treating and the HERSHEY’S Kisses & Hugs are the perfect Valentine’s Day surprise. When it comes to Christmastime, however, HERSHEY’S is still not to be outdone. Their products make their way into just about all of our holiday recipes and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

HERSHEY'S 2013 Holiday Collection

Recently, HERSHEY’S sent me a compilation of some of their holiday treats and the kids and I went at it. In addition to the yearlong favorites, Hershey’s winter holiday seasonal products include the following:

  • and more!

With a product lineup as incredible as that as well as the everyday favorites, how could you not put them to use? Just reading that list back to myself fills my mind with endless creation possibilities and, surely, my taste buds are in agreement. This is one of my most favorite, tasty recipes spotlighting the goodies from HERSHEY’S. I use this recipe all year long by coordinating colors but this is my winter holiday version.

Randi’s Winter Holiday Pretzel Buttons

Ingredients:

  • 2 10-ounce packages of HERSHEY’S Kisses Brand Candy Cane Mint
  • 7.4-ounce bag of Reese’s Pieces (separate to use the brown ones only)
  • 1-pound bag of Snyder’s of Hanover pretzel snaps

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200˚F. Some ovens run hot (like mine) so if yours is one of them, you may want to set the temperature down to 175˚F to make up for the difference.
  2. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper (or use a reliable non-stick cookie sheet).
  3. Spread the pretzels apart evenly on the cookie sheet and top them with the HERSHEY’S Kisses Brand Candy Cane Mint pieces. Try to get them perfectly centered atop each pretzel or you may have a chocolate meltdown on your hands later.
  4. Bake for 4-5 minutes or until the chocolate is softened and has a bit of a shine. Do NOT allow the chocolate to completely melt! They should still hold their shape.
  5. Carefully place a brown Reese’s Pieces single piece in the center of each HERSHEY’S Kisses Brand Candy Cane Mint piece. Press down slightly to spread the chocolate across each individual pretzel.
  6. Allow to cool (on the cookie sheet) completely. We toss ours in the refrigerator or freezer (depending on which has space) for a few minutes. Once they are cooled off, you can toss them in a bowl and enjoy!

And no worries if you run out of Reese’s Pieces. You can simply sandwich the HERSHEY’S Kisses Brand Candy Cane Mint Piece by placing a second pretzel snap on top like so. Just as adorable and equally as tasty!

We make these every Christmastime and, this year, even made extra to share with my little one’s class at school. A huge hit all around, we’re now gearing up to make our New Year’s Eve version. For these, simply swap out the HERSHEY’S Kisses Brand Candy Cane Mint for HERSHEY’S Hugs Milk Chocolate & White Cream Candy and opt for HERSHEY’S York Pieces over the Reese’s Pieces. This allows for a perfect color combination to coincide with the New Year’s Eve festivities while still tasting incredibly delicious. Just take a look!

And, bonus! With a leftover Reese’s Pieces piece and a couple of HERSHEY’S Collection Chocolate Covered Pretzels, you can even make a quick reindeer upgrade to the, otherwise plain, gingerbread cookie!

The winter holidays are surely one of my most loved times of the year and the release of the HERSHEY’S holiday products only adds to that excitement. If you have not indulged into the greatness of these HERSHEY’S goodies this holiday season, I highly suggest that you do so. The New Year and pledges to eat healthy are just around the corner so treat yourselves now. After all, we have the entirety of 2014 to make up for it.
