Losing someone close to us is always hard. I have lost so many loved ones in my life and it never gets easier. I lost both of my parents in the past 15 years, and just over a year ago, I lost my best friend in most tragic and senseless way imaginable. I have grieved before, but never like this. I will never get over the loss of her. Ever. But there are steps I am taking, to help me through the grief. But there is much more to consider than just me. Her very special little girls.

How do you help children with the grieving process?

Two little girls also lost their mother. He darling daughters are left behind to grieve their mother that they love so much. It breaks my heart to no end. I am glad that they have family who are taking care of them and getting them the help and support they need, and I was also happy to learn about a two special books that will help the girls and and other children {and people} like them who have experienced, and are currently experiencing, the pain and confusion of losing someone dear to them.

The Memory Box: A Book about Grief

About the Memory Box: A Book about Grief:

With The Memory Box: A Book about Grief, Rowland has created a beautiful grief journal to help readers put her methods into practice. The Memory Book helps grieving families process their emotions together by remembering their lost loved one and creating their own memory album full of photos and keepsakes of the person they lost. With gentle prompts and ideas for journaling, drawing, and talking through grief, this journal will bring comfort in the midst of loss and be a keepsake for families for years to come.

From the author:

“Grief is hard. Everyone has his or her journey with it. Allow yourself to grieve however you need to. There is no right or wrong way. There are support groups out there and other resources to help. Grief can be hard to communicate. I hope The Memory Box can be a tool to foster conversations and help keep the memories of your loved ones alive. The book also includes a guide in back that discusses ways to talk to your child about grief.”

I think this is such a wonderful way for those who are grieving to express themselves. Since everyone grieves differently, it is comforting to know that they aren’t alone. There are helpful tools in the back of the book that are conversation starters to help those grieving get their thoughts and feelings out, which will encourage them to share. Sometimes for children it can be so hard to express feelings – this book gives them the platform to do just that.

Although we can never bring back our loved ones, we can learn to deal with the loss. To have the right tools, and the right people helping makes this process so much easier.

I like to check up on my friend’s girls often. I like to let them know they are loved, and I know my friend would be happy that I am doing it. I want to do it for her too. If they ever want to talk about her with me, I will always be here for them.

  1. I would love to win this since we all have to go through the grieving process at some time in our lives and this would be a great aid in doing so.
