how new moms can take a break, time for yourself
Taking time for yourself each day is really important. I learned this years ago when my son was a baby – I desperately needed a break! Though I loved him dearly, the stresses of motherhood can be overwhelming, especially when there is no “me time” in sight.

How you get that “me time” is up to you, but there are several ways that just might work, which will lead you to feel like a new person. If you are fortunate enough to have friends or relatives who are willing to step in and take over, even for an hour or so every other day, it can be very beneficial.

My parents frequently took my son out and about with them, and during that precious time I would do whatever I wanted {within reason of course!}. Sometimes I chose to read a book, flip through the pages of one of my favorite magazines, or just head outside to soak up some sunshine. I always felt so refreshed by the time my parents brought my son home. It made a huge difference for both he and I. One thing I wish I had done was to get regular massages. Now that would have been really relaxing!

If you do not have anyone around who is able to help out at all, the library is another fun idea, especially for toddlers. Call or visit your local library and get the schedule of reading times. While your child is entertained by the book, you can at least take a few deep, cleaning breaths to help you refocus.

During the summer, heading to the community swimming pool with child(ren) in tow can be fun and relaxing for everyone. Though technically you aren’t “alone”, it might feel like a small vacation as you splash around the pool with the kids.

One of my very favorite things to do each evening {after I had my daughter – the sleepless wonder!}, was to take a bath. After my husband came home from work, and had eaten his dinner and relaxed a bit, I handed her over to him and I locked myself in the bathroom for a long, relaxing bubble bath.

Remember too, when the kids are napping, you don’t always have to do something constructive! Sometimes nap time is the only break you might get during the day. Certain chores can wait – your health and sanity are just as important. Enjoy the quiet time!

  1. During weekends, nap time for my 3 year old is my “me” time. That’s when I try to catch up on my blogging efforts, or simply plop on the bed or outside bench and read a book. I also take me time over lunch and hit the gym whenever work allows. I alternate an easy bike/walk/reading workout with a run/weight lifting day. Today I’m trying muster up the motivation to do a run/weight day.

    1. That is awesome! My daughter never napped, but I so could have used this time if she did. I always loved it on the weekends when my hubby was home, she would sleep on his chest for 2 hours. That was definitely “my” time!
