How To Make Your Pool Sparkle This Year

Dream Home

Making your pool sparkle with the freshest water requires careful management. Ideally, you want it to look crystal clear the whole year, but you’ll only manage that if you get your strategy right.

So, what do you need to do? How can you keep the water looking perfect if you’re the sort of person who likes to take a dip every day?

Get Your Water Chemistry Right

You’ll want to start with your water’s chemistry. Getting this right gives you the best chance of achieving the sort of crystal-clear waters you see in travel magazines and luxury home websites.

Start by putting a schedule together for testing the water. You want to check things like the pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness.

Ideally, the pH should be somewhere from 7.4 to 7.6. You want the chlorine to be between 1 and 3 parts per million, and the alkalinity to be between 80 and 120 parts per million.

Also, watch your cyanuric acid levels. These should range from 30 to 50 parts per million in healthy pools to keep bacterial contamination to a minimum.

Skim Daily

You should also explore skimming and brushing your pool daily. Removing debris and brushing the floors and walls prevents algae buildup that can make everything look bad.

Just remember, your filters aren’t perfect. While they might be helpful for clearing away some of the gunk, they aren’t perfect.

Add Lights

If you already have clear and clean water, you might also consider adding lights to your pools to enhance the sparkle. Including a GalaxyBrite pool light, for instance, can allow you to illuminate it at night, showing off how clean and sparkly your pool really is.

You could also use a pool clarifier at the same time. These are special chemicals that bind to contaminants and remove them from the main body of water, helping it look clearer.

Vacuum The Pool

If you have a pool vacuum, it’s also a good idea to use that to remove debris from the bottom of the pool. These are special devices that excel at sucking up the smaller particles while allowing you to recycle any water you remove, after filtration.

Automatic cleaners are also available. These are ideal for people who don’t have time to clean their pools every day and want to automate part of the process.

Run The Filtration System

While it might sound obvious, running the filtration system on your pool is another powerful approach you can use. This option means running the filter for at least 8 to 12 hours daily, depending on your pool size and usage. Keeping it going for longer should help to get rid of more particles and may make it appear clearer over time. Just remember, filters will only work for the pollutants they can remove–the rest will get recycled.

Backwashing the system is also helpful on a weekly basis. Cleaning out the gunk and then running it again can help you trap more particles and keep the units running efficiently.
