Decorating my house for the holidays is something I look forward to every year. Every few years, I update my decor, but always keep a few favorites from years past. This year I was invited to update my holiday decor by shopping at Kmart! I had an absolute blast looking around in the Kmart Holiday Shop for new and fun decor for outdoors.
Before I headed out for my big shopping trip, I leafed through the Kmart ad insert from my newspaper to get some ideas of what I might want to purchase. ย I was surprised at the huge selection, and knew it would be a challenge to not buy one of everything.
I was given $100 to spend, and before I went shopping, I tried to picture in my head what I wanted to do outdoors. ย We have a huge (and I mean HUGE) redwood tree in our front yard, so I thought it would be fun to do something creative with it. ย I also wanted to spruce up our walkway and the front yard in general.
As I wandered through the aisles in the Kmart holiday section, visions of a winter wonderland floated through my head. ย I had to try to focus though, and not get carried away (which would be really easy to do). ย Of course, the prices are so reasonable at Kmart, that I could buy several items here, whereas I could probably only buy one similar product at certain stores.
When I saw these large, shatterproof ornaments, I immediately knew that I had to have them. ย They will be PERFECT to hang from the redwood tree! ย Granted, I won’t be decorating all the way to the top of the tree ( how cool that would be?), but I do have plans for the lower part. ย I think these ornaments will brighten up the tree for sure. ย The normal price for these is $1.99 each, but they were on sale for $1.49 each – score!
What else could I do with the redwood tree? I knew I wanted more than just ornaments, but wasn’t quite sure what. Problem solved – I found these on the end of an aisle. Snow! Since we don’t get “real” snow where we live, I plan on spraying a little bit of this on the branches, to make a true winter experience…right in my own front yard. ย The price was right at only $2.99 apiece, so I put three in my cart.
On to the rest of my yard! ย Now this was a really hard decision, because there were so many cute items for my walkway. ย I kept putting things in my cart and then switching them for something else I ran into. ย Ultimately, these are the ones I settled on (can you say adorable??). ย There are four of these darling snowmen in the box (two with red scarves, two with blue), and they will be perfect for greeting guests as they walk up to our front door. ย Price on the snowman was $19.99.
I had a blast looking at the holiday displays at Kmart. They were on sale for only $13.99 (normally $19.99), soย I grabbed two of the light-up trees:
Kmart had a great selection of large bows, and I had quite a few ideas for where to put them. I chose these two large red bows (they were also available in Gold and Green). ย I plan on putting one on either side of the entrance to our gazebo (of course everything is subject to change). Note: The bows are actually a vivid red – this picture doesn’t show their true color (no pun intended).
I also purchased a ย large roll of red ribbon (I’m not quite sure yet what I am going to do with it), and a power cord for the backyard, and a few other things.
I cannot wait to show you how I decorate my yard for the holidays! ย You’ll have to stay tuned for my next post to see how it looks. ย In the meantime, make sure you check out my Kmart Holiday Shop Google+ story to see the rest of my holiday shopping experience at Kmart!

The snowmen are so cute. I hope we see a picture of your tree when your finished!
Note: We got a spiral tree last year, and hubby went to set it up, thinking the wires were holding it in the package (he’s used to kid toy packages, I guess, hah!) and he cut the wires to get it out of the box. Those wires were what holds the lights in place to spiral, lolol. I took a picture, I couldn’t resist. And I’m sure you prolly won’t do it, but I wanted to give you a heads-up, just in case. ๐
I love driving by big, real trees that are decorated with ornaments. That’s a great idea. And I’ve never seen snow sprayed…but that’s a great idea too!!! Love to see pics when you’re done on your blog.
Oh well thank you for telling me! That totally sounds like something I would do LOL.
I haven’t shopped at Kmart in a long time. I always liked their holiday selections though.
I like the snowman decorations a lot! Oh and the snow!!! I haven’t bought those snow cans in the longest time! I remember being so excited with them when I was little.
I haven’t used the snow cans before either…I can’t wait!
What great finds you found there!
You picked some cute stuff – can’t wait to see your yard. I need to get the xmas spirit going – inside I do ok but outside …..nothing.
Thank you! And yes, it’s time to get busy outdoors as well ๐
