About a month ago, I started putting together a list of all of the people that I have to buy Christmas presents for and some ideas of possible gifts for each one. Most of them were easy, but there were a couple people that I drew a complete blank on, including my husband. He is one of those people that is so hard to buy for because he usually gets what he wants and needs throughout the year rather than waiting for Christmas. So every year, I put way too much time into thinking up a perfect gift for him, then end up buying him a movie or a sweater or something completely unoriginal because I do not know what else to get him. I thought this year would be the same way too. Then I heard about
Knack, an online gifting site where you can create your own unique gift from over a thousand fun items (called “Knicks”)!

It is really easy to create a gift with Knack – all you do is choose a few Knicks (as many as you want or however much you want to spend) and choose a container for everything. Your Knack is then assembled and sent to you or your gift recipient, along with your gift message and a “Knackbook” explaining each item included. That is all it takes – a little time to look through all of the available Knicks, a few clicks of the mouse, and voilà! The perfect gift!

As I said above, there are over a thousand Knicks to choose from, including candy and other food items, kitchen accessories, bath and beauty products (for both men and women), jewelry, candles, cards, balloons and party favors, plush toys and rattles, office supplies, hats, camping and outdoor items, stickers, flasks, coasters, and even gift cards! The prices start under $1 (for small items such as candy) and go up from there to over $200. All of the Knicks come from independent designers, artisans, or quality brands, so you know you are getting excellent products. The available containers include different sizes and styles of glass jars (mason jar, cloche, hydration bottle, or legend jar), clear paint cans, or white keepsake boxes. The size of container needed depends on the size and number of Knicks chosen.

The possibilities for creating the perfect Knack are endless. If your recipient loves being pampered, you can choose from the many fun soaps, lotions, bath salts, and nail polish available. If you are buying for someone who loves mixing up a delicious drink, there are cute cocktail tea towels, a cocktail strainer, cocktail salts or spices, and even an amazing gold cocktail shaker set. For the person with a sweet tooth, there are chocolate balls or coins, jelly beans in many delicious flavors, gummy candies, sweet spreads, and gourmet candies. If you are having trouble choosing the perfect Knicks or just need some inspiration, there are many themed Knacks already assembled that you can look at. You can also filter your search by theme, category of items, recipient, and price.

I really wanted to create the perfect gift for my husband, and although I loved some of the themed Knacks that had already been created, I really wanted to design one of my own. I took my time scrolling through all of the available Knicks and keeping a list of items that I thought he would like. Once I had been through everything, I looked back at my list and chose the ones that would best fit together in a theme.

The theme I decided on was “Outdoor Lunch Duty.” My husband is a teacher and has to supervise students outside during the lunch period. We are now at the time of year when it can be pretty chilly outside, and I wanted to give him things that he can use to stay warm on those cold days. The Knicks that I chose were the Adirondack Winter Cap ($38) and Camp Mitts ($45) from Bush Smarts so he can keep his head and hands warm, and a Polished Brass Thunderer Whistle from Acme ($15) and Whistle Lanyard from Windsor ($2) so he can maintain control over his students. I also added in a small pack of Harvest Mix Caramels from Marich Confectionary ($2) because I knew he would enjoy something sweet in his gift. Finally, for the container, I chose the large Glass Legend Jar ($12).

I was super impressed when I received the “Outdoor Lunch Duty” Knack. The items were assembled in the jar so you could see all of them, and it came in a box so it will be easy to wrap. It also came with a Knackbook, listing all of the items in the Knack with a little information about each one. I cannot wait until my husband opens his gift on Christmas morning, and I love that I was able to put a lot of thought into his gift and get him something that is not only unique and chosen especially for him, but is also something he will enjoy!

I had so much fun creating a Knack, and I got a lot of good ideas for gifts for other occasions, such as birthdays, baby or bridal showers, and Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. If you are looking for a truly unique gift this year, then you definitely need to check out
