Get a Jump on Spring Cleaning & Organization with Kohl’s – Review

Kohl's

How many of you have started your spring cleaning? After all, the first day of spring is only just three days away. For me, with more fresh snow on the ground, I am not quite feeling it. I want to, I really do but I just can’t. The horribly cold weather and the incessant teasing from good ol’ Mother Nature have put us all into some sort of wishful haze. We’ve had random bright, sunny days tossed in the middle of two blistery cold ones. Of course, wanting spring to be here soon rather than later (darn you Mr. Groundhog!), we’ve taken advantage of these chance occurrences of spring-like days. Aside from that, though, we’re stuck inside still sorting our heavy winter clothes dreading the fact that the snow shovels are not yet put away. However, if I must be trapped indoors, I might as well make the best of things. As much as I’m dying to get back outside into the warm, fresh air, I must make do with what I’ve got.  So instead of getting our garden together and cleaning up the yard, this year, our spring cleaning started inside the house.

Now, as much as I pride myself on keeping our home clean and organized, this is not something that I actually enjoy doing. Who does, really? We all want our homes to be nice and clean but none of us really want to put in the work. One thing that has helped me over the years is organization. I find that, when you’re organized, there is little left to clean. Just the simple idea of sorting item and putting things back when you’re finished using it helps tremendously. Of course, for some, getting organized can surely be a task in and of itself. Thankfully, I know this great little place that’ll get you on the right track.

Yes, Kohl’s! While the majority of shoppers head to Kohl’s for their wonderful selection of clothes for the whole family, it is so much more than just that. I will admit that, for the longest time, I was in that group. Whether it was clothes for myself, the kids, hubby, or even gifts for others, more often than not, I would shop the whole front section of the store and head out a happy customer. Not really being one for lengthy shopping trips, I’d never venture off to browse. Then, one day, our little ones pleaded that we head over to the back of the store to smell the plethora of candles that were on display. That’s when it happened. There, right in front of me, was this vast sea of goodies that I couldn’t take my eyes off of. The Kohl’s home department! Was this some sort of mirage or did all of my shopping fantasies finally come true? Everything, everything that we could possibly need, was it really all there in one location, and without having to venture into the chaos of the mall?

Kohl's

Yes! There it was!

Okay, I’m sold.

This isle, that isle, let’s go!

Kohl's Home

There is so much to choose from! Whether you’re in need of basic items or a full organization system, Kohl’s is the place to go. Having only recently moved into our new house, we’re still working out the kinks and getting our organizing routine off the ground. While we have our bedrooms and home office pretty squared away at this point, it was the rest of the rooms that needed work. Our kitchen and dining room for example became a sort of catchall. Everything from the mail, car keys, and spare change to the kids’ completed schoolwork, bills, party invitations, and more all seem to make their way to our countertop. Our kitchen is rather small so this became an issue as soon as it was time to prep for any meals. I’d have to run around like a mad woman clearing and cleaning the countertops before I was ever able to start cooking or even make a simple sandwich. We desperately needed something to store all of the loose items while simultaneously keep everything easily at hand.

Off to Kohl’s it was.

Kohl's Lipper Organizer

I came across this lovely little Lipper Bamboo Space Saving Desk Organizer. While it would, typically, be an office accessory, I thought it would work perfectly in our space. With its multiple slots, compartments, and small drawers, it looked to be the perfect catchall for, well, our current catchall. And that it was.

The different sized spaces offer great storage for everything that comes our way. School projects fit nicely in the largest compartment until I can get them up to sort and store them properly. The mid-sized slots work perfectly for things such as incoming and outgoing mail. We’ve decided to utilize the smaller of the spaces for our writing utensils to keep them easily on hand whenever needed and have since added in a few small note pads. The drawers are great for storing odds and ends such as scissors, paperclips, glue sticks, tape, and more. I love that I have finally found a cute storage piece for all of the items that would otherwise make their way to our countertops. Regardless of décor style, this particular organizer would fit well in any space and on any surface.

After finally getting the chaos on the countertops taken care of, our next organizational need was just under that; our drawers.

With an older home and outdated kitchen, things are small, sizes are off, and nothing fits. I’ve actually had to resort to using our nearby linen closet as a makeshift pantry because all of our cabinetry and drawers simply won’t hold anything. The closet, well, that is another project for another day and you can bet your bottom dollar that I’ll be venturing back to Kohl’s for that as well but, for now, onto those drawers. Until now, these have been a catchall as well. Since moving in and despite searching high and low, we were unable to find any suitable drawer organizer to house all of our silverware. Most were too wide, some were too tall, and none of them fit… until now.

While shipping the good ol’ home section of Kohl’s, I came across some nifty little items that are quite unique in the sense that you can use them for just about anything. The Core Bamboo Drawer Organizer comes in a variety of sizes and, best of all, can make up a completely custom design!  We went ahead and purchased, both, the 3” x 12” size as well as the 6” x 9” size. Together, we were able to fit them together to finally make up a beautiful drawer organizer that fit our oddly oblong drawers. Just take a look at this spectacular before and after:

After fitting two drawers properly, we still had a few of the 6” x 9” size leftover so I plan to put those to good use elsewhere.

Kohl’s offers a plethora of great home products all at amazing prices and, I for one, cannot wait to head back for more and officially get our spring cleaning game underway. Here are just a few of the items that I plan on picking up as well:

For the garage, the Rubbermaid Long-Handle Tool Storage Rack.

For the bathroom, the simplehuman Triple Shampoo & Soap Dispenser.

For the laundry room, the Honey-Can-Do Triple Laundry Sorter.

For the kitchen, the Old Dutch Graphite Hanging Oval Pot Rack.

And for the guest bedroom, a wink of pink, the SONOMA life + style Martin Storage Ottoman.

  1. I recently posted about organization on my personal blog. Always makes me feel better to be organized! Those bamboo boxes work really well in your drawer, too.
