Make your strawberries stay fresh longer
Mmmmmm strawberries – they are one of my favorite fruits! The only problem with them is storage. They go bad so fast if you don’t store them properly. Sometimes they are are not edible only a couple of days after buying them at the store! What I have wondered for years is how to make strawberries stay fresh longer, and now I have finally found out!
When we had our lake house, there was a fruit stand about 3 blocks away that had THE BEST strawberries ever! They were large, red and juicy. I always hesitated to buy too many, since they just didn’t seem to last long.
No matter where I purchased strawberries, they shriveled and softened pretty quickly. I wanted to enjoy firm, sweet strawberries for a few days, not just for a couple of days.
I asked the man at the strawberry stand what was the best way to store strawberries. He told me very simply, “keep them in a plastic vegetable bag in the refrigerator”. That’s it? He was right, and that is how I have been storing them ever since. I would say they lasted 2 – 3 times longer than just putting them on the counter, or sticking them on a refrigerator shelf without covering them. I have found that they can even be washed, gently patted dry and then put in the plastic bag – it works beautifully too!
So that’s it! It seems so simple, yet I would have never thought to have put them in a plastic bag in the refrigerator!

I love strawberries. I had no idea not that they last long at our house.
This is good to know, as I’ve been getting strawberries lately, and leaving them in the container they came in. No more!
This is good to know. We love strawberries but they don’t stay fresh for long.
