Typically, we don’t start our holiday decorating until the weekend after Thanksgiving but, this year, we got an early start. Of course, in recent years, that includes our friendly little elf. Popping around from place to place while the kids are asleep, it’s become a fun tradition to search for him each morning to see what crazy antics he’d been up to while we slept. The kids’ classes each have a cute little elf that helps to check in on the children during the school day. As much as we love our little holiday house guest, I’ve often wondered how an elf could possibly tie into the celebrations of Hanukkah.

Mensch on a Bench was created by a Jewish father who wanted to teach his sons about the Jewish holiday while adding new traditions to the family. First came the story of Moshe the Mensch who helped Judah Maccabee at the temple. Moshe played dreidel, loved gelt, and was a true Mensch. Next came the doll which could hold the Shamash candle and watch over the Menorah.
You see, the Mensch on a Bench joins your household for the holiday season and, in turn, helps to teach children about Hanukkah in a fun way. However, when you welcome him into your home, there are a few rules that are to be followed:

You can purchase your very own Mensch on a Bench directly from their website at www.TheMenschOnABench.com. The 12” Doll & Book set seen here retails for $36 while the Limited Edition set is priced at $49.

I like that he is small and adorable. My kids would love him.
What a cute thing! I like that this is similar to the Elf on the Shelf concept but it teaches about the faith of the Jewish people.
With the slogan “Add More ‘Funukkah” to Hanukkah,” what’s not to like! Moshe the Mensch is adorable. He’s cute, and funny, and he looks pretty authentic, too. And mensches are real, but elves are not. I’m just sayin.
He is engaging, fun and can become a great family Hanukkah tradition.
HE IS SMALL AND COMES WITH A STORY TO TELL ABOUT A PEOPLE
I like that it has a story with it.
I really love this cute little guy and I have some Jewish friends who would love him too.
That he was or will be on Shark Tank!
