Chocolate Gets Personal with MY M&M’S

How many of you have that one childhood best friend? You know, the one that you’ve known for a good majority of your life. The one that no matter where life takes the two of you (even across the country) you can still meet up again years later and pick up without skipping a beat as if the distance never existed. The one that’s been there through it all, your go-to gal, the Mary-Kate to your Ashley, your teammate, your neighbor, your classmate,  your friend. I have one of those and, though she may still run from bees and has a knack for bringing up some of my most embarrassing moments for the world to hear, she’s always going to be that friend. Meet Kelly.

(Kel, I apologize in advance for the awkward adolescence of both of us here… Whoops!)

She and I met ages ago and though life did, indeed, take me across the country, we have entirely too many memories to count. With everything from township sports games and in-class shenanigans to birthday parties, sleepovers and pulling all-nighters, first boyfriends, and so much more, I am happy to say that she and I (along with a great group of wonderful friends) will be embarking on yet another momentous adventure together – her wedding!

I am so incredibly proud of all that she has accomplished in life since the days of our wee elementary school selves and I cannot wait to stand by her side as she starts a new chapter in her life with amazingly sweet fiancé, Mark.

As happy as this time may be for her, it is also kind of bitter-sweet. Having lost her mother a few years back and, then, her grandmother just prior to getting engaged, the thought of seeing her walk down the aisle without these two amazing women being there is a hard one to grasp. While many brides-to-be have their mothers and grandmothers at their sides through every step of wedding planning, she does not. But she has never, once, drawn pity to herself. Kelly is an incredibly strong woman who helps to bring new life into this world on a daily basis through her work as a maternity nurse. She knows firsthand just how precious life is and that, despite them not being here in person, she has two miraculous guardian angels by her side at all times.

Being a bridesmaid for someone is an incredible honor in and of itself but being her bridesmaid is far greater. The lot of us, including her Maid of Honor who rounds out our little elementary school crew, want to do everything in our power to make this time an absolute dream come true for her.
