I have always felt that reading is so important for young children {and everyone of course}. It was a big part of my kids’ childhood, as we read each night at bedtime and several times during the day too, at least on the weekends. They developed a love of reading early on, and I believe part of it was that I chose interesting books. Not interesting to me, necessarily, but age appropriate, really interesting, funny or relatable books which sucked them in. I absolutely love the books that I am sharing with you today, and I hope you feel the same!

Beginner’s United States Atlas, Third Edition. I love the idea of introducing kids to the different states at an early age. Not to brag, but I knew my state capitals at a very young age, and I still remember them all to this day. For some reason these just stuck with me. It is important to learn the states of our country, and  this book is a great way to introduce them to the states & territories with the maps, fun facts and interesting geographical features .

In this fully updated edition of the popular atlas, young readers will also learn about what is unique about each state and territory. Imagine how fun it will be for a child to learn about his or her very own state!  Each profile starts with a colorful map and essay and also includes the capital cities and information such as population; important land and water features; state birds, flowers, and flags. It’s all packaged in a bigger format, with a refreshed design, and bold, bright photos and illustrations. This is a paperback book, for  ages 7-10, and has 128 pages.

United States Atlas. This book packs a bit more of a punch, for the older kids who need just a bit more information and more details.

Current, authoritative, and produced by the expert cartographers at National Geographic, this best-selling United States atlas is newly updated with all the latest info and is packed with maps, stats, facts, and pictures. National Geographic’s world-renowned cartographers have paired up with education experts to create maps of all 50 states, U.S. territories, and Washington, D.C., that pinpoint the physical features, capitals, and other towns and cities. Discover the latest data along with colorful photography of each state and the people who live there. Key points reflect the latest information about land and water, people, and places. Essays cover each region of the country while eight specially themed maps on nature, population, economy, energy, climate, and more delve deeper into key issues. State birds and state flags add to the high visual interest.

5,000 Awesome Facts (About Everything!)

I absolutely ADORE books like this! Oddball facts always intrigue me, and this book is full of them!

This book is literally busting its covers with fascinating, fun-tastic facts on super, sensational topics that kids love. Who knew that there were so many sweet things to learn about chocolate or that a dozen delicious details about peanut butter would show up on a page with a few splotches of jelly to whet our appetites? Keep turning and a terrifyingly toothy shark tells you all about himself, while other spreads lay out tons of tips on toys and games, mysteries of history, robots and reptiles, sports and spies and wacky words. A visual feast of colorful photographs surrounded by swirling, tipping, expanding, and climbing bits of information in a high-energy design, this book will satisfy both the casual browser and the truly fact obsessed.(ages 8-12, 224 pages, hardcover).

Izzy Newton and the S.M.A.R.T. Squad: Absolute Hero (ages 8-12, 192 pages, hardcover)— A brand new series from the author of many beloved American Girl books, Valerie Tripp! Join Izzy Newton and her friends at Atom Middle School in the first adventure of this new middle-grade fiction series. A crowded new school and a crazy class schedule is enough to make Izzy feel dizzy. But for the S.M.A.R.T. Squad, it’s all about relying on the value of friendship and the power of science to help them think their way through all kinds of sticky situation. Science and tech reign supreme when these five brainy buddies put their heads together! Little Kids First Big Book of Science – This lively introduction to the fascinating world of science explores the different kinds of science, what scientists do, and the amazing things that scientists study: animals and plants; oceans and space; earthquakes and volcanoes; sound and light; inventions and more! Fun activities, games, and simple experiments encourage interactive learning, showing kids that anyone can use scientific observation and experimentation to be a scientist and discover new things. With bright images and age-appropriate text, this book inspires kids to be curious, ask questions, and explore the world around them and maybe even grow up to be a scientist one day, too! Topics include astronomy, botany, paleontology, malacology (that’s the science of clams, snails, and other animals with shells!), zoology, and more. (ages 4-8, 128 pages, hardcover).

National Geographic is a name that I know and trust. They have been around since I was a kid (and long before that, I’m sure!). I remember my mom always had the trademark bright yellow National Geographic magazines on our coffee table. I think it is wonderful that they put out these fun, interactive books especially for kids. When books are this fun, kids sometimes tend to forget they are even learning. That is the magic of National Geographic Kids books.

This book collection would make an excellent holiday gift {or anytime gift!} for those curious kids on your list. They will discover that learning CAN be fun – and that National Geographic Kids books are always full of fun stuff to read.

  1. I have a great niece and a great great nephew and they both love books. And I would split these books up between them. As a senior these books don’t fit my budget but it would make a great gift for the kids

  2. Not only do our kids enjoy reading but they are very interested in the learning aspect of anything from how do clock mechanisms know how to keep time correctly to how talented people are from artists (creating Mt. Rushmore) to musicians, to engineers. These books will help explore their curiousity and educate at the same time. Everything National Geographic is always a plus in our home. Our kids LOVE going to their grandparents as they have the old National Geographic magazines with so much information in them – our kids love to absorb this stuff!

  3. my gransons would enjoy this as they love reading, and National Geographic books are really great to learn from.

  4. I would love to give these to my grandchildren, especially since they are currently unable to attend in person schooling.

  5. My granddaughter would be entertained and educated with this book set. Thanks.

  6. This would be great to win for my younger kids since we will be distance learning all year, and they have them using apps that read to them instead of them reading themselves which I have reservations about,

  7. These remind me of my Childcraft set my grandparents have me when I was a baby. It is 52 years old and I still have the whole set.

  8. My great-grandsons are interested in basically everything in the world around them and they soak up information like sponges. They’d love these books and gain knowledge from them.
