Second star to the right and straight on ‘til morning.
Admit it, you’ve all dreamed of what it’d be like to take a trip to Never Land. The Lost Boys, Peter Pan, and even Tinker Bell would make up your posse of friends while the pirate crew and Captain Hook would be your archenemy. How much fun would that be? Really, now?
I grew up on Disney films and the Peter Pan movies were always a favorite of mine. Just the idea that you could “think a happy thought” and take off to a world of fun and excitement was enough to get me hooked. Add in the temperamental fairy, the good guy Pan, the wild and crazy gang of friends, and the mission to triumph over evil, old pirates and you’ve got a story for the ages! Now, everyone knows the classic Peter Pan and Wendy tale but many have missed out on the continuation of that story.
In the follow-up film to the original Peter Pan, Disney’s Peter Pan Return to Never Land, the story continues. This time, it’s Wendy’s daughter’s turn to have her own run-in with the Pan man.
Wendy’s very practical and no-nonsense daughter, Jane, begins the adventure of a lifetime when the infamous Captain Hook whisks her away to the enchanted island of Never Land. It’s up to Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, and the Lost Boys to help Jane believe in faith, trust, and pixie dust. With the first-ever Lost Girl at his side, will Peter finally defeat Hook and his swashbuckling band of pirates?
In this installment, Wendy and her children find themselves in the middle of a war torn town and, with her father away fighting the war, Jane was told to help look out for her family.
As a little girl forced to grow up too quickly, Jane has forgotten her own love of fairy tales and her mother’s stories of Peter Pan.
Then, when evil Mr. Hook and his mob of pirates kidnap young Jane to hold her hostage against Peter Pan, her life is turned upside-down. Thinking that Jane is Wendy, Captain Hook holds her captive in hopes to draw Peter Pan out for a final fight. Little does he know, Jane has a fiery personality, is just as strong-willed as he is, is cunning enough to gain the title of the first Lost Girl, and has the ability to outsmart and outwit him just as well as Peter Pan, himself, can. The partnership between the legendary Peter Pan and the new, stands-her-own-ground Jane is one for the history books and is the ultimate tag-team duo to take on mean, old Hook.
However, will Jane’s grown-up disbelief in fairies destroy Tinker Bell and, therefore, Never Land or will she be able to believe in the magic of it all before it’s too late?
Recently re-released in a Blu-ray & DVD Combo Pack, Peter Pan Return to Never Land is a great movie for the entire family. Mom and Dad will enjoy reminiscing on their own childhoods past. Little boys will love the crazy antics of the Lost Boys and the pirate gang. For the little girls, between fairies and a fierce main female character, how could you go wrong? And with the added bonus features of deleted scenes, five pixie preview episodes, and more, this is certainly a film that you’ll want to pick up for family movie night in your home. This fun twist on the classic tale reminds us all that you’re never “too old” or too grown up to believe… in a little faith, trust, and pixie dust.
