What Is It?
Unlike traditional education models, the Rocketship model focuses and rotates between four content blocks daily: Humanities, STEM, Learning Lab and Enrichment. The content blocks are designed to uncover a child’s potential through personalized learning, talent development, and parent power.
Because lessons are streamlined and simple, students under a Rocketship Education program are able to learn a lot of crucial information at a steady and effective pace. This eliminates a stressful atmosphere, thus allowing the child to thrive in a healthy environment. While the educational model is effective, Rocketship schools truly shine because of the quality of the teachers that guide the students.
In Rocketship schools, teachers also serve as the leader in the learning process for every single student they have. There are group level and differentiated instruction levels that cater to students in each of their individual needs. The teachers under the program are well-trained not only in the various subjects under the Rocketship schools, they are also able to adapt to various learning programs. This includes Independent learning, small group tutoring, and adaptive online learning programs.
In every step of the process, the teachers are guided by a robust process that tells them what lessons students need to achieve mastery in every field. That being said, it is apparent that the cores of Rocketship Education are the students themselves. Supporting these students are teachers who themselves are continuously learning about the various techniques and skills in developmental learning.
A Program That Teaches Teachers
Emma Volpe is one of the many great teachers at Rocketship Education. She is an English Learner Specialist and of course, she is loved by her students. As a veteran teacher at Rocketship United Academy, she wanted to expand her expertise further and that is when she heard about the Professional Development fund. It is a program that provides teachers who have been with Rocketship for three or more years with $1000 to take up professional development on a course of their choosing.
With her fund, Emma entered an immersion program in Antigua, Guatemala. It was a great choice for her as most of her students come from the region. Her chosen program immersed her with a host family. Living with them turned Emma into a student herself has she had to work through the local culture and area all on her own.
Throughout her trip, Emma was able to further develop her skills as a language instructor. At the same time, she became more versed in the culture of her students. By becoming a student herself, she was able to develop a deeper understanding of the people she guides. She is just one of the many teachers who are given a chance to develop their skill set over at Rocketship Education.
If there is one central theme within Rocketship Education schools, it has to be continuous development. Both teachers and students are able to break their limits through what the school provides. Such a healthy learning ecosystem is needed to truly bring out the best in each and every one of us. Although Rocketship Education is still relatively young, it has already changed the lives of countless individuals. It will be exciting to see what is next for its students and teachers.
