Relive the Classics with Disney Movies on DVD & Blu-ray

Labor Day weekend typically means one thing for us – the beach. Whether it’s simply soaking up the sun, spending the day out on the water, getting up early for a morning fishing trip, or strolling along the sea line taking in that breezy, salty air, it is amazing. While I certainly love every second of all of the above, this year none of it happened. I bet you’re all scratching your heads wondering why on Earth I wouldn’t have done any of it. Well, I have two words for you – new homeowners! That’s right! We just bought our very first home! As a fixer upper, there is a ton of work that needs to be done prior to moving in and that leaves with a big dilemma. Little ones aren’t exactly the biggest helpers when it comes to cleaning, painting, remodeling and decorating. Now, considering that one of the items on our to-do list is to fence in the yard, letting the kids run amuck outside won’t exactly work. Keeping them happy in a completely empty house isn’t exactly ideal either. Thankfully, I recently had the opportunity to review a few things that solved this problem…

Disney! Yes, that’s right, Disney. Sure, actually going to Disney would be wondrous but this time around I’m just talking movies. Think about it. In an empty house that needs plenty of work, the easiest way to keep the little kids safely entertained is a movie and some comfy seats to kick back in. We have a massive collection of films to choose from but those that hold their attention are always the Disney films. Set them up with new Disney films and you’re good to go for hours! Now, “new” to me and “new” to them are two entirely different things. I’ve grown up on Disney films. I am pretty sure that I’ve seen each of them a hundred times over. My little ones on the other hand are much more familiar with today’s greats as opposed to the good ol’ classics. As much as we love the newer films, it is a lot of fun to introduce them to Mommy and Daddy’s Disney. They get to immerse themselves in the magic of older Disney films and we get to reminisce a little bit.

With little boys, The Sword in the Stone is a wonderful film filled with loads of excitement. Magic, self-confidence, strength, weaponry… what’s not for a little boy to love? A tale now celebrating its 50th anniversary with release on DVD and Blu-ray, is the perfect addition to your collection for the mighty little boys in your life.

The Sword in the Stone Trailer on Disney Video

Take an amazing journey with a young orphan named Wart and the extraordinary wizard Merlin. According to legend, only someone with the purest character and inner strength can pull the enchanted sword from the stone and claim the throne of England. Armed with newfound confidence and the power of friendship, Wart discovers his destiny and learns the best magic is the kind you find inside yourself!

Another great film for the little guys is, of course, Robin Hood. There is no better story than the whole “good guy saves the day and wins over the princess” and, with this film, you get it all on top of the fun bow-and-arrow antics. A classic for generations is now celebrating its 40th anniversary (can you believe it?!) with its new release on DVD and Blu-ray.

Love Conquers All – Clip – Robin Hood on Disney Video

Join Robin Hood, his trusted companion Little John and his hilarious band of Merry Men as they outfox greedy Prince John to save the good people of Nottingham. Dashing from one daring deed to the next, Robin won’t rest until he wins the hand of Maid Marian and restores King Richard to the throne.

A great film for the entire family and a favorite of mine is Oliver and Company. This spunky little kitten goes on a wild adventure in hopes to find a home. With our own cat being a rescue from the streets, the kids have already enjoyed watching this film multiple times because, apparently, little Oliver is the friend of our cat. This, too, is being rereleased on DVD and Blu-ray in celebration of its anniversary – 25 years!

Oliver and Company Trailer on Disney Video

In the heart of New York City, Oliver, a mischievous orphaned kitten is befriended by Dodger, a carefree pooch and his ragtag family of misfit mutts. Life gets even better for Oliver when he is adopted by a little girl named Jenny. But when tough guy Sykes and his Doberman sidekicks try to keep Jenny and Oliver apart, the spirited kitten and his newfound friends discover the meaning of courage and find a home where they truly belong.

I have been watching all three of these movies for years now. The kids haven’t been too thrilled with Mom’s old school VHS versions of classic Disney films so these new releases of the movies have been wonderful. I absolutely love being able to watch and enjoy the older movies with our little ones. I also love how much they love it. These “new” (to them) films are just as good, if not better, than a brand new Disney flick in the theater. It just goes to show you that “new” isn’t always better. Now Disney, well, Disney is always the best.

Our holiday weekend working will go much smoother now that the kids will be happily entertained with their favorite “new” movies. I am so glad that Disney is now rereleasing their classic movies and was honored to have had the opportunity to check them out. The wonderful folk at Disney want you, too, to have the privilege of enjoying the classics with your own children. One lucky winner will win all THREE of the titles above!
