Golden Grain Pot-Sized Pasta
I love pasta! I love spaghetti! What I do not love is breaking the long pieces of spaghetti in half, so they will fit in the pot. It never fails, I break a big handful of spaghetti noodles in half, some end up on the floor, and little pieces fall all over the stove and countertop. This means that after I am done cooking, I have an extra mess to clean up (do you also have trouble picking uncooked spaghetti off of the counter?).
My spaghetti dilemma has now been solved with Golden Grain Pot-Sized Pasta! Why on earth didn’t someone think of this before? Needless to say, when I was asked to review the new Golden Grain Pot-Sized Pasta, I was very happy!
Look! They come in a small box (a full pound), and are so easy to store, and so easy to use.
I decided to whip up my simple but tasty Shrimp Scampi Linguini, using the convenient new pasta. To make this pasta dish, I removed the shell from the shrimp (see tip below!), and sauteed them in olive oil. After they were cooked through, I removed them and in the pan I added a half cup dry white wine to deglaze pan. I then added two tablespoons of butter and two teaspoons of flour (to thicken the sauce slightly). To that I added 3 crushed garlic cloves, the juice from one lemon and a half cup of dry white wine, and returned the shrimp to the pan. While the shrimp were cooking, I also started boiling water for the Golden Grain Pot-Sized Pasta.
When the noodles were done boiling, I tossed them with the shrimp, making sure to coat them with the sauce. We enjoyed garlic bread and salad with our Shrimp Scampi Linguini – yum! Not only are the Pot-Sized Pasta noodles easier to cook with, they make eating spaghetti noodles much easier. No more long noodles slapping me in the face!
I will be buying Golden Grain Pot-Sized Pasta from now on. It is so simple to just open the box and pour the noodles right into boiling water, without having to break them first. This is such a clever idea, and I send a big thanks to Golden Grain!
Here’s a kitchen shortcut for you! When preparing a dish with frozen shrimp/prawns, as I have done above, removing the shell can be difficult (and extremely time consuming!). Instead of waiting until the shrimp are completely thawed to do this, remove the shell while they are still partially frozen. What I do is place the frozen shrimp in a colander and run water over them. Wait about 10 minutes and give them another splash of water and start peeling. The shells come over so much easier this way!
