This incident will not earn me Mom of the Year award

You know when you really try to do the right thing and it backfires in a big way? This seems to happen to me more than the average bear, but I digress.

So yesterday, I was sitting here dumb, fat and happy {okay not really fat, but dumb and somewhat happy} working hard on my blog. My daughter had a friend over and they were trying on their costumes for Fanime {don’t ask – it’s a convention thing where people dress up}. Anywhoos, my daughter tried her dress/costume on and it was a little bit long. Here is the costume:

costumes for Fanime

My daughter and her friend came into the family room {where I am working} and my daughter had the dress on. She asked if I could just fold it sideways a bit and sew it together so it wasn’t too long. It didn’t really matter what it looked like as there is a big bow that she was going to put on top of the part that I sewed. She even had a needle threaded and ready to go!

I started sewing the dress while it was on her {risky, I know, especially with my history of sharp objects}, and it was looking pretty darned good if I do say so myself! I made sure it was sewn really good so it would hold up during the event. She was so happy and thanked me profusely. I felt like the best mom ever.

Then it happened…

Her friend, bless her heart, says, “You didn’t sew her shirt to the dress, did you?”

Umm {thinking to myself} what shirt are you speaking of? “The black t-shirt that she has on under the dress”

Crap. My daughter swooshed the dress over her head and that’s when we discovered:

Oh, yes I did.

And this just had to happen right before Mother’s Day…

What dumb things have you done as a mom?

  1. ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is too funny! I can see myself doing something like this too, so don’t think I’m laughing at you.

  2. This is why I do not sew. In class once I made a pillow and sewed my entire pant leg, so my pillow was attached to me. It’s the thought that counts, at least you tried:)

  3. LOL. I love it! Could happen to anyone. I’m impressed you could sew at all with it on her. I would have sewed it to her skin by accicent

  4. LOL, oh Jen…this totally cracks me up! I think it’s awesome that you were sewing the the outfit while she was wearing it! When I get out the needle and thread, my kids run. Fast.

    1. Well, if she hadn’t brought it to my all ready like that, I would have told her to take it off 🙂 I was very careful not to sew her skin…and she is very brave to let me try it!

    1. I wish I had one! I don’t really have an official sewing kit (probably because I am awful at it), so I don’t even think we have one. Luckily I was able to separate them fairly easy 🙂

  5. LMFAO! Oh dear lord, that has to be the funniest thing I’ve heard tonight! Although, I understand how tragic it can be too. LOL Hopefully the convention isn’t for awhile yet >.<

  6. LOL….sounds like something I would do! That’s why I ONLY sew costumes, never regular clothes I might mess up!

  7. Oh thank goodness on so many levels that I have boys!
I am trying to stifle my laughter for many reasons:
    1. I might also pee my pants (ain’t perimenopause grand!)
    2. I cannot sew to save my life so I would do that, too, so if I laugh too loud, I’m tempting fate.
    3. I’ll wake up the hubby and the puppies
    4. There is a Poise commercial on now with Whoopie Goldberg that started me laughing again, making me think of peeing my pants again…. I’ll never get to sleep now.

  8. Hey! The fact that you pulled a needle out and tried puts you so much farther ahead than I! So hear hear to you.

    🙂

P.S. Found you via the amazing Blue Violet!

  9. HAHAHAHAHA! That’s hilarious! You poor thing to have tried so hard and find that out. BTW, Fanime is a convention for those that like Japanese animation (anime) and your daughter has an outfit of Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon 🙂 I used to follow all that back in the day (until a year ago).
