Time for Kids: The Big Book of What

big book of what

As parents, we often hear “What” questions from our children. “What is the most dangerous animal in the world?”, “What makes the Northern Lights change colors?”, etc. I have to be honest and admit that a lot of times, instead of taking time to thoroughly explain these type questions, I will give them a summarized answer instead. For example, “well, there are lots of dangerous animals in the world. Poisonous snakes, great white sharks, certain types of jellyfish, etc. and the Northern Lights change colors according to how far up they are in the sky.” Time for Kids has written a wonderful new book “Time for Kids: Big Book of What” that makes answering all the “what” questions the kids very easy to answer and in a kid-friendly method too.

This hardback, 192 page book is filled with full-color pages that present 8-12 year olds with answers to the intriguing questions that appeal to their sense of curiosity. Divided by subject area – from animals, the human body, technology, sports, green-wise living, people, places, food and more children will discover the background behind the questions they so frequently like to ask.

This book is not only one the kids will enjoy but it has made me enjoy taking time to thoroughly answer questions too. Filled with fascinating facts, amazing illustrations and incredible photographs this book makes learning fun and enjoyable. You can find the “what” answers for questions such as: “What are some foods invented by accident, What to do during a tornado, What is GPS, What will future transportation be like and many more.

Time Big Book

Our 8 year old loves studying about space so she grabbed up this book to learn “What is a solar eclipse”. One feature in this book that is a huge bonus is that scattered throughout this book there are fun activities (crafts or experiments) the kids can do also. For example, when our daughter read about a solar eclipse there was a hands-on activity she could do to help her further understand this concept. Of course, our son loved the “What fish communicates through farting page”. Honestly, I had no idea that even happened so I learned something new too! Being from Alabama, the kids loved seeing the Tuskegee Airmen have a 2 page spread in this book as well because that is a historical event from their very own state.

The Big Book of What is a wonderful addition and a great resource for any home, school or library. Containing 501 facts and answers, this book will not only satisfy your child’s curiosity but keep them wanting to read more and discover new things as well. While you can find answers to almost anything on the internet, books like this help children realize that sometimes learning still needs to come from a good book.
