I have never liked reading books. In fact, I typically avoid reading books at all costs. I get too distracted, or find that I am reading the words and not soaking in the information. So, this new fad of podcasts has really given me the opportunity to soak in information from what is in a book, but in a much faster timeframe. Listening to an hour podcast instead of reading a 700 page book. Sign me up! Now I am immersed into numerous podcasts that all focus on health and wellbeing. I made a list of my top 5 health and orthodontic podcast, all for you to enjoy. I promise each and every one of these is worth your time, and can improve your health.
#1 Doctors Farmacy
Have you ever heard the phrase, “food is medicine”? If you have not heard it from me, its a wildly popular idea that the food we eat is impacting our health on a daily basis, later causing chronic conditions or disease. The Doctor’s Farmacy is led by world famous Dr. Mark Hyman. Look him up, his credentials will not disappoint. Not only is he a Doctor, he is an author of so many best-selling books its insane. He also leads the Cleveland Clinic Functional Medicine wing where they are combining traditional medicine with functional and seeing some outstanding results. If you are wanting to learn how to overcome health issues with food first instead of medicine, this podcast is for you!
#2 Dhru podcast (formerly the Broken Brain podcast)
You may be thinking, who is Dhru? Well, I am a big an of Dhru – he is an entrepreneur and business partner to Dr. Mark Hyman (see above). They work together to bring in the best experts, authors, doctors, etc to inform the general public on how they can enhance their health. The best part is the speak on issues we can all relate too and use language we can all understand even if they are discussing science. I highly recommend this podcast! listen while you go for a walk or are traveling on a plane. You will learn so much!
#3 The Model Health Show
This one always surprises me. I actually learn about the host, Shawn Stevenson from a book that a coworker recommended, “Sleep Smarter”. This book not only helped me with my sleep but I actually got to implement a sleep challenge at work based on his 14 day sleep program he offers in his book. One I learned how awesome Shawn was and how deep his passion was for just sleep alone, I had to try out his podcast. He is now a best selling author as well and just came out with another book called, “Eat Smarter”. All of his guests are so intelligent and you will learn things about yourself that you never knew! The best thing about Shawn is that he shares from first hand experience how he healed his back when doctors told him he had no chance of getting better. He is living proof that you control your health and that the healthcare system is not always looking into your best interests.
#4 Bulletproof Radio
I will admit, the host Dave Asprey does some crazy things and even has some crazy guests on his show. But, deep down his goal is to educate and provide ways for us all to increase our longevity. He is aiming to live to 150 years old so he brings on a lot of guests that are helping him understand how to be in his best health and age well. Its always a good show, no matter who he is talking too. I learn a lot and often leave with a ton of questions. Its more of a laid back show with some different ideas, which is great if you like to hear all angles of health and maybe you have hit a roadblock. He actually shares his personal story of having so many health issues and being on so many medications. He overcame all of that by changing his food and understanding what toxic load he had from mold exposure and then getting all of that out of his system. He is a super interesting guy and he is leading the way in biohacking.
#5 The Better podcast
I actually just came across this podcast because the host, Dr. Stephanie Estima was a guest on a different podcast. Her passion for women’s health got me amped up and motivated. She has such a passion to teach women how to live long healthy lives. She mainly covers women’s health topics, which is great because I don’t know of another podcast that dives deep into our cycles and hormones and how we can optimize them through out life as we age. Things like knowing when to eat more fat or more protein based on what week of your cycle you are on, or maybe you are interested in time restricted eating or fasting. She shares so much knowledge and is very engaging with all her guests!
