Upgrading Your Bed For A Better Night's Sleep

If you have been having trouble getting to sleep lately, there are all kinds of factors that could be playing a role. Mental and physical health, how much light and noise gets into your bedroom at night, whether you have a TV on in there, and a bedtime routine can all play a role. However, one element that has an undeniably deep impression on your sleep quality is the bed itself. Here, we’re going to look at the different aspects of your bed and how they can impact your sleep and, more importantly, what changes you can make if you’re having a hard time getting the shuteye that you need. It may be time to think about upgrading your bed for a better night’s sleep.

Upgrading Your Bed For A Better Night's Sleep

Start with the mattress

If you’re finding it difficult to go to sleep because you feel uncomfortable when laying in your bed, then your mattress is going to be the culprit the vast majority of the time. The mattress’s softness dictates how your points of contact sink into the bed or not. As such, choosing the right mattress often means thinking about how you like to sleep. For instance, those who sleep on their back might prefer a firmer mattress because they don’t want to sink into the bed as much, whereas those who sleep on their side might want a little extra give, so that they’re not suspended awkwardly on their points of contact, such as the hips and the shoulders.

Don’t neglect the frame

While the mattress might be the most obvious place to start, your bed’s frame and, in particular, the materials, can make a huge difference to your quality of sleep as well. For instance, the bed quality of the supports can affect sleep, as cheaper beds can start to sag over time, which causes your mattress to sag, as well. What’s more, certain materials such as wooden beds also have soundproofing qualities compared to things like metallic beds which can creak and groan as you move on them. Choosing a material that’s sturdy, reliable, and isn’t going to cause any undue noise or movement can have a big impact on deep you can sleep.

The bedding matters, too

The last part of the puzzle is one that typically has to do with the kind of climate you’re dealing with. The wrong choice of bedding can leave you hot, sweaty, and unable to get comfortable in some cases, or might leave you freezing in other cases. You should have a few different sets of bedding for the different seasons, with lighter and more breathable options during the summer, and heavier, warmer materials to keep you comfy during the winter. If you get prone to itchiness or rashes from lying in bed, then it might be that you’re in need of hypoallergenic bedding and aren’t even aware of it. Rotating your bedding frequently can prevent trapped dust and the like from making your bedclothes more irritating, too.

The tips above might not solve all of your woes, but you can make sure that your bed isn’t the primary culprit getting in the way of your sleep quality.
