The beginning of November means a lot for many people. For me, things get a bit personal. I get to celebrate my birthday so, of course, that is always plenty of fun. And then there’s the Marine Corps birthday, too!
However, from there, a somber feeling fills the air.
I have a long list of family and friends that have served and are currently serving in our military. Having always been quite a history buff and having nearly enlisted myself, I have always felt a strong connection with our men and women in arms. I have been the daughter, the granddaughter, the friend, the significant other, the family, the stranger and never have I once lost that feeling. I’m not one to get political with things but I will always, one hundred percent, stand behind our troops in their fight for our freedoms.
As incredible as these men and women are, with whom not even Superman has grounds to compete, many people often forget about those heroes that are right here at home. The families and friends of these brave men and women are equally as strong for their own commitment to our country. Could you imagine living day in and day out knowing that your wife or husband, son or daughter, brother or sister was off in distant lands and in imminent danger with the very real possibility of never returning home? More importantly, think of the little ones. What must it be like to grow up never meeting your father because he’s off, fighting for our country? We’ve all seen the homecoming videos, the photos of deployed troops coming home to meet their child(ren) for the very first time, (I cry my eyes out at every one of them) but could you imaging living it? Hundreds upon thousands of these brave men, women, and children do so every single day right here on the home front. These people are not your average civilians nor are they soldiers – they are warriors.
The kids, they are innocent. These tiny, little beings want nothing more than the chance to see their fathers, their mothers, their families. They want the normalcy that you and I have. These troops, these heroes – these parents – want nothing more than to lock arms in a warm embrace with their babies. Their courage and their fight, however, takes them away from that. Instead, they put their lives on the line with full willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation.
Surely, we as a nation thank the military personnel that we run into and, yes, we compile letters and care packages but, at the end of the day, they just dream of coming home. They fantasize about running, open arms, to finally greet their loved ones. They wish for the simplicity of safely standing on US soil once more. They hope to see the smiling faces of their children for the first time. They hope to be there for the next birthday celebration, the next holiday, and the next movie night on the couch. They just want home.
In an attempt to, even for a second, make life easier and make the distance seem shorter for our troops, Summer Infant has recently launched a special Veteran’s Day Giveaway. Through the wonderful advances in technology, Summer Infant’s brand new Link WiFi Series will finally allow our troops the much needed and often dreamt about time with their little ones. This series, including the Baby Touch WiFi, Baby Zoom WiFi and Baby Link WiFi, offers home wireless network-enabled systems that allow caregivers (and our troops) to view baby, children, and even pets from virtually anywhere in the world, either at home, or away from home on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Since this wonderful, new technology has the ability to work around the world, honoring our military with these products was a no brainer. Since launching their Internet monitors, Summer Infant has continually honored military families that have young children by providing baby monitors so troops could view their loved ones even while deployed.
This Veteran’s Day is no different. Continuing their strive to make life easier on the brave men and women of our armed forces, Summer Infant is, once again, proving their dedication to our service members through their Thank You program. This program kicks off with a wonderful giveaway targeted specifically toward military families. In honor of today’s holiday and incredible meaning, Summer Infant is giving away 100 of their most popular safety products, including the all new Baby Zoom WiFi Video Monitor & Internet Viewing System among other goodies.

I stumbled upon your blog – specifically this post and now I am crying. What an amazing post you have written in honor of our troops and their families. I am a military wife myself and have lived through a lot of what you wrote about. My husband missed out on my entire pregnancy (except for the first 4 weeks before I even knew I was pregnant of course) and the delivery of his first child (my second) he came home 2 1/2 months later and it was the most beautiful day I have ever lived. I appreciate your post and your words about our men and women in uniform as well as the sweet innocent children that do miss their mom’s and dad’s so much and can’t really fully understand why they can’t be home to tuck them in every night or kiss them goodbye each morning on their way to work. I don’t really have a point to this comment except to say thank you to you and Summer Infant for this wonderful contest and sweet post. So…Thank you!!
