What's a Disorganized Person to Do book Review

When I was contacted to review author Stacey Platt’s book ‘What’s a DIS-Organized Person to Do?’, I thought to myself, “they must know me!”  I try – I really try, to get organized, but I am just not very clever in that department.  I have a hard time coming up with creative ways that will help me get organized and stay organized.   I am definitely the right person to review this book, as the organizational ideas contained within are exactly what I need to get things in order around here.

About Stacey Platt:

Professional organizer Stacey Platt runs DwellWell, a New York-based organizing and lifestyle management firm with a clientele that includes celebrities, chefs, artists, doctors, lawyers, overextended moms and more. Touted by Daily Candy as being “well-versed in aiding the most cluttered, confused, and disorganized,” she is a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers and has an M.B.A. from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Nearly a decade and a half of daily yoga practice informs her approach to organizing and to life.

The book is laid out in simple terms – there are photos to go with the ideas (which really helps me!), and it really is an easy read.  The sections are broken down by subjects and rooms, and covers everything from reducing junk mail to designing a clothes closet, to sorting digital photos.  Check, check, check – I need help with all of these. There are also symbols throughout the book to help.  Specifically, there are three symbols –  One-Hour Project: Step-by-Step instructions on streamlining specific areas of the home, from the pantry to the bathroom vanity.  Quick Tip: An idea, product, or service that will instantly reduce clutter in your life.  Double duty: Space-saving solutions that multi-task.

Hmmm…getting rid of clothes/toys/clutter is the worst!!! Our storage room is sky high with these items. My husband is a pack rat and needs this book too!!!!

  7. I have two rooms –the guest room and the office. Both of these are places that we tend to just dump stuff.

  8. The dining room. It is not used for eating. It has dog crates, kitchen overflow and other "stuff" that has no home.

  9. Oh my gosh! It's just chaos every inch around here! 3 kids? It looks more like 300 live here. It's just nuts.

  13. The table the I use as my dining table, desk, filing cabinet, study place…

  14. our living room needs the most organizing between the 2 cats and their toys and us not putting stuff away i feel like it is still cluttered after i clean

  15. The areas of my home and life that need the most organizing are my time and my paper trail lol, and that's just the beginning!

  16. My closets need it the most! I look pretty organized on the outside, but my closets are FULL of "miscellaneous" boxes and plastic containers. If nothing else, I need to reorganize those so that like things are together. Best-case scenario would be that I'd throw away/donate/sell a bunch of it and have more closet space in the end!

  17. I need to finish unpacking from our move 2 years ago. I don't unpack because I know I'll have to organize it. So the boxes sit in the back room along with all the ohter things I need to organize. And the closets …

I realize it needs done, I just keep hoping I'll come home one day and find it magically completed

  19. I would say the office needs the most organizing. It's where all of the bills and everything else end up and it's getting frustrating.

  20. I can't think of a place that doesn't need organizing except my refrigerator and that's only because I just got it. Give it a week or two and it will be just as bad as the rest of the house.
I need to stop reading blogs and get to work 🙂

  21. LOL, my whole house needs to be organized – it's just too small with too few closets to hold everything I've accumulated.

    Thanks for the giveaway!
