Today is laundry day. Two days ago, laundry day. Two days before that, laundry day. It is, quite literally, a never ending cycle. Add to that a house full of messy boys including one that tinkers with cars (and all of the oil and grease that comes along) and I can easily envision myself, more or less, living in our laundry room. The average family does 400 (give or take) loads of laundry per year! So yes, camping out in the laundry room could be a reality for some. During the time that I’ve spent doing our family’s laundry, I have learned that the whole process goes much more smoothly when you have two things – a washer that actually works AND the right detergent. I’m sure that you have all been there at one point or another; you wash the clothes only to find that they are still dirty or stained just afterward. It is certainly not fun to have to go back and rewash things because, then, you really would be living in the laundry room. Thankfully, though, we can prevent this camp out.
The Home Depot is determined to make you love laundry (or at least despise it a little less). As a one-stop shop for all of your laundry room needs and then some, The Home Depot is a wonderful place to get started. I know that you’ve seen it; all of the amazingly well-designed laundry rooms that are to die for (just search Pinterest!). This is one of my favorites that I have come across.
Unfortunately, I am no interior designer but I do know that The Home Depot can help get me there. Luckily, The Home Depot has also partnered with, just that, a designer! Meet Jenny Komenda of The Little Green Notebook. Jenny was nice enough to share some of her favorite organizational tips for overhauling and creating more efficient space in your laundry room.
- Dealing with a dark, cave-like laundry room is a chore in and of itself! By taking off the doors on a few of your upper cabinets, you’ll open up the space and create a place to store baskets. In this laundry room, we assigned baskets for every member of the house, which makes sorting a breeze.

- Why not decoupage or paint insides of cabinets for a fun pop of color? It’s a guaranteed smile each and every time you reach for your detergent.

- Don’t like the cabinets, floors and countertops in your laundry room? Every surface can be painted or resurfaced! For less than $30 in materials, the outdated linoleum, brick pavers and old, dark cabinets were updates in this laundry room with paint and with a concrete overlay product.

- A rolling laundry butler can be your best friend, doing triple duty with a hanging bar, a rolling basket and a drying rack. It’s the perfect choice for a laundry room with limited space that hasn’t been updated in a few decades.

- Don’t neglect your laundry room walls! Hanging interesting art and mirrors will elevate your room and make it feel less utilitarian and more “homey.” Suddenly, those 400 loads of laundry most of us will do this year might actually be enjoyable.

- Use a slab of stone or a simple piece of painted MDF on top of the washer/dryer units to create a folding station and to prevent socks from slipping in between the appliances.

I know that our laundry habits are not going to be changing anytime soon and, with sports in the kids’ futures, I can only bet that it’ll get worse from here. For that, there’s Tide. As a consumer favorite for more than sixty years, Tide is a brand that we can trust to do all of the dirty work.
For the physical “work,” you can count on Maytag for that. With multiple options available, including the new energy efficient products, Maytag will not steer you wrong. We have entrusted our laundering days to the Maytag brand for more than a century and it is still a favorite today.
Now, as we close on our new home, you can bet that I’ll be utilizing The Home Depot as my new “camp out” location. With a slew of products available to help you with any project, including a laundry room overhaul, it is the place to shop for all of your home improvement needs. The Home Depot is currently offering a stupendous promotion to celebrate the #BrilliantHEClean campaign. For every purchase of a new Maytag Powerwash machine and 150oz. bottle of Tide, customers will receive a $100 gift card from The Home Depot. Just think of all the good you can do for your own laundry room!
In addition to The Home Depot in-store promotion, the #BrilliantHEClean campaign has, of course, made its way online. Through the Brilliant Clean Sweepstakes you can enter to win a brand new Maytag washer and dryer, a year’s supply of Tide (for those 400+ loads of laundry), an e-design consultation from Jenny herself, AND $5,000! Ten runners up will also receive the full year’s supply of Tide as well!
But wait! I’m not done just yet! Speaking of all these prizes has got me itching to give something away, too. What do you say? To get you started on your very own laundry room transformation, The Home Depot and Tide have come together to offer up a wonderful #BrilliantHEClean prize pack for one of our lucky readers! Drumroll please…
