Arm & Hammer Clumping Cat Litter

striped-cat

Although I have one outdoor kitty (well technically two if you include Magnificat – the neighbor’s cat who never goes home), I prefer keeping my kitties indoors. I have my own reasons for this, including one of my cats that was hit by a car years and years ago. The reason I have an outdoor kitty now is that she came to us, and does not like to be indoors. Since we live on a quiet cul-de-sac, I feel that she is pretty safe.

When I was growing up we always had indoor/outdoor cats. They came and went as they pleased. This worked out great for us, as the entire yard was their litter box. Having indoor cats certainly makes more work for me, and changing or scooping out the litter box is definitely not one of my favorite chores. I despise it in fact. I disliked changing my kid’s diapers too, but I still kept them around 🙂 Scooping the litter boxes is my job too. Nobody else will touch them and I can’t really blame them.

Besides the cleanup of the boxes themselves, I have to sweep around the boxes too. I swear, sometimes it sounds like they are building sandcastles in there. I cringe just a little when I hear them rooting around in the litter box and flinging litter everywhere. I put big garbage bags under each box, but that doesn’t seem to help too much. I try the tracking mats, but they simply jump out of the other side of the box. Grrrr.

I am enjoying the Arm & Hammer Clumping Cat Litter though. It keeps the smells at bay, and makes my job not quite so icky. That is one plus, right?

Do you have cats? Do you have any tips for making litter box cleaning easier?

  1. Invest in a good, strong scooper and scoop daily. It pays off. You should have one litter box per cat plus one more. With eight cats, believe me you do need to keep up with it but Arm & Hammer clumping litter is my favorite.

  2. I have a cat named Smokey. Her litter used to be not so bad, but she’s gotten older and stinkier, so this sounds like a product I should try!

  3. I actually have four cats and we swear by arm & hammer double duty cat litter. We also find that the best way to keep the litter clean and make it easy to clean is to make sure there is enough litter in the box and empty it frequently (at least once a day, sometimes more). Also, make sure you have enough boxes for the number of cats you have. Multiple cat homes with only one box will be hard to clean and dirty quickly.

  4. I don’t have cats but my mom does. (I used to.) A tip I picked up along the way was to put a trash bag around the litter box before the litter goes in and this way the box doesn’t get all sticky and makes weekly dumping easy.

  6. Yes, I have 3 cats ! And I really do not have any better idea’s than you do. In fact mine do the same thing. When doing there covering and drives me up a wall sometimes. I too have no idea why
they have to cover from one direction and then turn and do it from another direction. Perhaps it is the cat litter I am using, which they obviously do not care for and probably smell the stink, and think if they cover it long enough it will just “Go Away somehow”.
Maybe I need to use the Double Duty Arm and Hammer.

They are just as bad as kids, a pain in the rear end …. right?

  7. I do have kitties inside and a couple outside as well, while I don’t use this product yet I’m sure I’ll try it.

  8. Arm & Hammer Clumping Cat is a great product to control the odor. We have tried the bargain brand litter which included a huge amount of dust and started to smell rather quick

Thank you for hosting this giveaway

  10. I do have a cat. I have an enourmous fat main coon named scarlett (she’s a diva).

  11. I have 3 cats- all we adopted from a pet rescue. I make sure to scoop daily and I add baking soda to the litter to help keep it from stinking!

  12. We have five cats. Using a product like arm and hammer that clumps makes it easier.

  13. i have 1 cat, and i have 2 boxes. . . i use scent absorbing litter to make it a little better

  14. We have two cats. My best tip is to clean it daily. I try to clean it both in the morning & in the evening. I find that this really works well, especially with two cats.
    Thanks so much.

  15. I keep the litter box in an unused shower in the basement and put a vinyl tablecloth under it. It’s easy to pick up and shake out outside.

  16. I have 2 cats and 2 litterboxes…I scoop at least once a day and change the litter out every week.

  17. We have two Siamese indoor cats. One of them is the sweetest little female we adopted 7 years ago. She’s declawed and someone dumped her on the side of the road. She spent 6 months wandering around a friend’s neighborhood.

  18. We have a cat but we have problems with keeping the cat box clean (mostly because the kids don’t always keep on top of the litter box cleaning). I hate the smell but really enjoy having a cat in the house. Thanks for the giveaway! Have a nice day!

  19. I don’t have cats but using baking soda sprinkled over kitty litter can help neutralize odors some

  20. i don’t have any cats anymore but my only tip is to do everyday along with your other cleaning

  21. I have two cats, Ricky and Lucy, with each having their own litterbox in their favorite privacy spots. I try to manage the odor by sprinkling a bit of baking soda and using a pooper scooper.

  22. I used to have cats and we would definitely add some deodorizer in the litter that was safe for cats and empty the litter box regularly.

  23. We used to have a cat but not now. I remember seeing my mom added some baking soda to keep the litter box fresh and odor free.

  24. You have to clean the litter box regularly which people don’t do. If you don’t your house stinks and I think you get immune to it but your guests know you have cats..lol.

  25. I always line my litter boxes with paper- usually grocery circulars. It makes it a little to clean.

  26. I don’t have a cat myself, but having watched friends’ and family members’ cats in the past, one tip I’ve found useful for keeping the litter box more manageable is to add plastic liner to the box for easy cleaning and removal, and to take the hood off the box, which traps in odors. Thanks for the chance to enter!

  27. I have always had at least one or two cats. I set the litter box on an old towel on the laundry room floor, so that I can just shake out the towel to keep the floor clean. Every so often I run the litter box through the dishwasher (BY ITSELF!!!) to be sure that it is really clean.

  28. I’ve had cats in the past. Easiest way to clean the litter box is to get someone else to do it!

  29. We have one cat, Figaro, who just turned a year old, which is hard to believe because she is huge…anyway, my best tip is to scoop and clean often. Her litter box is awful, I try to do a full clean weekly and scoop whenever it gets unbearable. I think I will try this litter, if it has a better odor control than our current litter we can’t go wrong.

  30. I DO have a cat, and all I can say is keep the litter box far away from any family areas (ie. we are lucky to have a doggy door into the garage!)

And I always try to get a MULTICAT litter!

  31. We had cats when I was growing up and we made litterbox cleanup easier by having newspaper under the box. It worked, but it wasn’t the prettiest solution!

  32. I don not have cats. I do own two fancy rats named Gin and Tonic. Shades of Williard?

  33. i have cats and my tip is to clean it daily to keep it from becoming a stinking mess

  34. I don’t have a cat at the moment, but when I did Arm & Hammer liter was the best to use

  35. yes I have 3 cats. I used deodorizer which helps a little bit. This double duty litter might just work for me.

  36. I have cats, and they drive me crazy. Their litterboxes aren’t that bad, but still need some odor control help.
    magickalblessings26{at}yahoo.com

  37. After being cat-owned for many years, I am currently catless. I don’t expect that to last much longer!

  38. I have two cats. Each have their own litter box but still go on the floor beside the box every now and then. Keep it clean—daily. I hate that job!

  39. required entry: I might as well have cats all 3 of my girls do and I watch the grandkids everyday and THEY bring ,at least, one CAT to visit a day

  40. I recommend cleaning the litter box daily. Take the time just to scoop the box daily and then once a week clean out the box and put in fresh liter.

  41. Sorry, no litter box, but I do keep cat litter in the house because it’s great for soaking up oil in the driveway and is also good to put on ice on the steps if you don’t have any de-icer.

  42. My daughter has a cat and she loves this products. Thanks for the great sweeps and like on FB. Hope to win 🙂

  43. I love cats, but hate cleaning the litterbox. I do not have any good tips, but look forward to reading tips from others here.

  44. I have 4 cats and I make sure I scoop daily. I also make sure the outside of their box is wiped down weekly from the dust of their litter.

  45. We used to have cats and put Arm & Hammer baking soda in the litter pan to help keep the litter fresher.

  46. It’s been ages since we had kitties, but I remember saving bread bags to scoop litter into.

  47. I’ve never had cats but Arm and Hammer baking soda absorbs a lot of odors elsewhere so I have no doubt their product for cat odor control will by good.

  48. I have one cat. I really don’t like the clumping litter because … well … it clumps. I prefer the regular litter so that I can scoop out the solids directly into the toilet and flush them down (which, as I understand it, is the most Eco-friendly way to deal with it). When I change litter, I give the box a scrub with vinegar and water which removes all the odor. My kitty is funny about smells (I suppose they all are) but after a quick wash with the vinegar, she’s happy! Thanks for this opportunity!

  49. Get one of those litter boxes that has a snap on cover. The cat won’t get sand all over the place other than the front part where the openting’s located. Didn’t work for me because mine was afraid to go inside, but maybe yours is braver. Had to take the cover off.

  50. I don’t have cats now, but I used to. I used to use baking soda in the litter box with the cat litter to keep it fresh!

  51. I have a cat and I have yet to find a product that helps reduce the amount of litter that gets kicked outside of his box. It is located in my laundry/mud room, so I end up using a battery powered sweeper in there about every other day.

  52. Yes, I have a kitty! I’m adopting a second one this coming weekend, too. Unless I buy the Arm & Hammer litter, I normally add a layer of baking soda on the bottom of the pan.

    pd6914 at gmail dot com

  53. We no longer have a cat, she passed away last year. 🙁 However, we used Arm&Hammer and it was definitely the best at getting rid of odors. Nothing worse than the stench of a litter box!

  54. We used to have a load of cats. As they passed on we never replaced them, so now we have none. Thanks.

  55. I have one indoor only cat and 2 ferals that I’ve trapped, had neutered and released that I feed to help keep my gopher population down. No tips on litterbox other than cleaning it often.

  56. I have two cats, Fred and Ginger ( brother and sister, age 4): Both were declawed by a previous owner. Ginger has a bad sore on her tail- my neighbor ( who’s moving and gave me the cats last week) thinks an animal bit her. I’ve been keeping them indoors, and they’re still meowing to go outside constantly.

  57. Do you have any tips for making litter box cleaning easier? Yes, I like it real simple, do it outside!

  58. I have one cat named Lucy. My tip for cleaning the cat box… do it daily! It’s so much easier and cleaner if you take a minute to clean it once a day then it is to clean it later when it’s full and stinking up the house! Sprinkle the box with baking soda.

    suzy_darling@hellokitty.com

  59. I have one cat and if I don’t clean it every day it gets really smelly. Arm & Hammer litter helps keep the odor down.

  60. We have one kitty named Frodo. I think the best thing to do is scoop the litter box daily.

    frugalmommieof2 at gmail.com

  61. We have two cats and recently switched to Arm & Hammer Essentials Multi-Cat formula and are quite pleased with it. We also bought a new litter box with a high back and sides that slope down from the back. It gives the kitties less area to jump in and out of the box and has cut down a bit on the flying or tracked litter when they’re feeling rambunctious.

  62. No cats, but I know some people that could use this. Think they would be offended if I showed up with a box:)

  63. I don’t know about easier….The expensive electronic ones are a dream, i’m sure…..but to make it a little more tolerable i always take my arm and hammer deodorizer and sprinkle it on before i get to it…

  64. Yes I have 2 cats, and there was a time that we had 4 (all indoor cats) I dont allow my cats to go outside because I’d worry too much about them coming back or worse, get hit by a car, I agree changing the litter box is the worst job ever and I have since resigned it to my daughter and usually she does it without me saying anything but occasionally I do have to remind her the get them changed, at one time we had 5 boxes when we had the 4 cats, right now we are only using 2 since there are 2 cats but technically from what I read there should be one extra box than you have cats, my only tip is to try to keep a broom near by because no matter what they will kick that litter out or carry it out on their paws so its almost impossible to get it all in the litter box, I’ve never tried the scoop litter I just buy the regular kind and my cats seem to like it
    Thanks for the great giveaway

  65. I have a cat and I line its box with a \garbage bag so when its time to change it all I have to do is bring up the sides and I am done!!

  66. I do not have cats now, but have in the past. I used to slide the whole litter box into a trash bag, flip it and empty it inside the bag and wait for the dust to settle inside before taking the box out again.

    chrisdeglen(at)gmail(dot)com

  67. We have a very spoiled kitty who knows she’s the queen and we humans are merely her staff. 🙂 The thing I’ve found that helps when I have litter box duty 🙂 is to do it more often. That may sound like it defeats the purpose for people who hate doing it, but it’s less disgusting when there’s just a little bit of “disgust” in there!
    Katharina angelsandmusic[at]gmail[dot]com

  69. I have 2 cats, one of which was apparently dumped in the area and has adopted me. She was definitely a housecat, but is currently living half in the house and half in the garage, since she has my older cat absolutely buffaloed! He runs and hides in the bathroom cabinet, so I split their house roaming time by shutting him in my bedroom/bathroom (with his own water, food and litter box!) for half the day, and her into the garage the other half. So instead of finding an easier way to do the litter box cleaning, I have doubled mine!

  70. We have two senior cats, and we have five litter boxes. My tip would be to keep on the cleaning. I have a scooper next to each box.

  71. I have cats and buying good litter helps with order and works best Arm & Hammer is stuff I work use it again! Thank you so much great giveaway!
    tishajean@ charter.net

  72. Put the cat box in the spare bathroom if you have one, in the bathtub. It’s weird, I know, but the cats like to go in there for some reason, and guests never see or smell it (and use the clumping litter and clean box regularly).

  73. Thanks for the giveaway…our litter box tip is to clean out “solids” daily, and replace the litter weekly… whether it needs it or not !
