In my neighborhood no one likes the taste of the local tap water. The truth is we buy spring water and filter that! Needless to say, I was very excited to review a bobble! bobble is a reusable water bottle that filters water before you even drink it. Â I was sent a medium bobble that holds 18.5oz ($9.99 ARV)! bobble celebrated their 2nd anniversary this March. Here is a little background on how bobble came to be.
The story behind bobble:
In 2008 our founders, Richard and Stephanie Smiedt, were developing product in Asia when they passed by an open field piled high with factory waste. The scale was massive, breathtaking (quite literally). The field was a graphic illustration of the often-invisible impact of production and consumption. Richard and Stephanie felt compelled to move in a different direction.
They turned their attention towards single-serve plastic water bottles. If those bottles were exacting a murderous toll on the environment, they would simply need to reinvent them. They had seen consumer willingness to replace plastic bags in the checkout line and felt confident consumers would do the same with water bottles. The invention of bobble’s portable filter was a signature milestone; the filter makes bobble possible, and distinguishes it from the cluttered field of water bottles. With bobble, consumers could have the experience of single-serve, minus its financial and environmental cost.
How does bobble work?
My thoughts:
Each bobble filter can filter up to 40 gallons. It is recommended to change filters every two months. According to bobble, the carbon filter exceeds NSF International Standard 42 for chlorine, taste and odor reduction. It works great, trust me! I followed the instructions to fill the bottle with water then squeeze it out once before drinking. Tiny carbon particles will come out the first time it gets wet, hence the reason for pre-drinking filtering. I took it a step further and filled the bobble with water a second time to see if any particles come out again. It didn’t! The water was perfectly clear. The next step was taste. I was brave, very brave. I tried it with my tap water from the sink. It tasted great! I was very very surprised. We have a brita and it never made the tap water taste that good.
My biggest surprise was how lightweight the plastic is – is easy to squeeze. The top is easy to pull up also, my son can pull it up. He always needs my help to pull up traditional sport tops. bobble also makes a bobble Jug that I’m planning to purchase soon!
All bobbles are made in the USA, and can be purchased on the bobble website. Â Make sure you connect with bobble on Facebook and @waterbobble on Twitter.

I’ve seen these, wondered if it was just another gimmick but maybe I should give it a try
I’m with you in the fact that our water could take down an elephant with all the nasty stuff it has in it! Which is why we get ours treated at the local environmental store.
I like this idea that you can have a little water bottle that does the same thing-It’s easier and probably more convenient 🙂
I’ve seen these all around whole foods….must try one.
I have one of these. I like it very much! The only thing I don’t like is that the opening is small, so you can’t get in there with a brush to wash it out really well, but I rinse it out with hot water everyday. It’s definitely worth the $9.99, and not having to buy so much bottled water anymore!
You need the Bobble Brush! It’s a cute little silicone brush with a long handle, designed for cleaning awkward bottles like these.
Good to know – thanks!
If this can make my water taste good it is worth it’s weight in gold~! I spent $6000 to drill a well (which it took me 3 years to save for and still financed half) last year and now we can’t drink the water. It smell and taste so bad. The water is so hard that it turns all the sinks tub and toilet orange from the iron and I have to scrub and scrub each week trying to clean the porcelain. We buy gallons of water each week to cook and drink with and it would be so great to be able to just pour and drink without lugging all that water. To be able to pour a bottle of water from our tap and head out the door would be wonderful. Bobble filtered water bottle sounds great. I priced what it would cost to put in a filtration system and about fainted. Another $2800 bucks~!!!!
I’m using bobble and I like it… it a grate way to take water anywhere…
