Just when you think you’ve learned all there is to know about animals, along comes the awesome new book “Curious Critters” by David FitzSimmons.
Go ahead…test your animal knowledge!
Whose face has this funny looking nose?
Which animal has feathers in these colors?
Which animal has 4 eyes without wearing glasses?
Curious Critters is an award-winning children’s picture book from photographer David FitzSimmons. He sheds light on animals that are common throughout North America and animals that your child may actually encounter in real life.
They are photographed against a solid white backdrop that showcase the animals’ colors, textures and shapes with precision and clarity. As well as beautiful photographs, each animal includes a short story that is told from the animals’ perspective.
Our children love learning about animals…especially animals they may actually see in nature themselves. Our 6-year old is especially fascinated with learning about animals and currently claims that his favorite animal is a giant anteater! The kids have spent several nights together reading Curious Critters and discussing the details on the photos of the animals.
As a homeschooling parent, I love this book because it is extremely educational. It shows details of the animals skin, colorations, hair, eyes, etc. that you typically don’t see in animal picture books. Most animal picture books photograph the animals in a nature setting and you often lose the details and characteristics that are unique to each animal. This book brought the animals to life for the kids. It has also sparked their curiosity to learn more about some of the animals…especially the bush katydid whose color is bubble-gum pink! It also teaches them about how these animals protect themselves, how they got their names and colors and really educates the kids so they know as much as possible about the animals they are seeing on each page.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has children, preschoolers, homeschooling families or teachers. Curious Critters would also make a fantastic Christmas gift for a special child or to give to a local library to add to their collection.
