Upon receiving the kits, I was worried that it would be quite the task to get the kids to cooperate. After having already completed numerous crafts involving children’s prints, I knew that most turn out better the second time around. Thankfully, Prairie Creations is one step ahead of the game. Each kit comes with a bit of practice clay just for that reason.

After giving it a whirl with the practice clay a few times, we were ready. We helped each of our children center their thumbs onto the silver clay. With a gentle push downward, their prints were made. We allowed each print to dry overnight as instructed and then boxed them up to be shipped out. You can choose from a slew of options and accessories to further personalize each print. From chains and additional charms to the simple adding of initials and birthstones, the choices are endless. We chose to keep ours simple and just went with each child’s initials being added to their respective piece.

I was so very anxious to see how the kids’ prints turned out. I had expected that the special firing process would take a good amount of time to complete so I was shocked to see that they had arrived back to me only a few days later. With, both, hesitation and excitement, we all gathered around to open the package as a family. Our babies, our lives, our moment in time frozen, solidified in objects within these two tiny boxes – I needed a moment to let that sink in. They’re bigger now. They’ve grown. They always will. But this moment, these pendants will always remind me of where it all began. These will remind me of when our family became the three of us, and then the four of us.
