I have mentioned in the past how much I love companies that give back.  I am SO happy to tell you about SONIC Drive-In’s annual Limeades for Learning campaign! This is a pretty amazing  philanthropic initiative –  it donates $3 million each year in support of public school teachers around the country. Limeades for Learning® is a national award-winning initiative to support U.S. public school teachers in local communities.

The next few months are exciting ones, because SONIC will be donating money to all kinds of teacher projects that are posted on the Limeades for Learning website. It is done this way so that way teachers from Maine to Oregon will be able to get the school much needed supplies and materials they need for teaching their students. Teachers play such a critical role in our children’s future, but they do need our help. They should not have to provide some of the basic items that should be provided by the school district. Did you know that teachers spend about $500 of their own money on basic school supplies so they can help improve classroom experiences for their students.

This is such an important cause, as I have seen firsthand in my own children’s classrooms, how much money teachers spend out of their own pockets for necessary items for their students. Even things like tissue paper for the cold and flu season, glue, etc., cost the teachers. Many teachers have a “needed” list that gets sent home to parents, in hopes of them donating a few items to help defray the costs.

Thank goodness SONIC wants to help these teachers! The program is possible with help from DonorsChoose.org, which is an organization dedicated to making it easy for everyone to help a classroom in need. Now this is really impressive – SONIC has donated more than $7.5 million to public school teachers! This huge donation has funded over 14,000 classroom projects and has supported and benefitted more than 419,370 students!

When you visit DonorsChoose.org, you will find SO many projects to support. They have a list of “urgent” projects, or you might choose to pick a project from a variety of subjects, including music & arts, special needs, history, etc. You can also choose to support a project that has never received donations, students from low-income households, never before funded teachers, and you can even choose to match donations. If you want to help a certain grade, you can view just those projects as well.

I received from SONIC, a $200 gift card to DonorsChoose.org, so I can choose which teacher/project I would like to help. I browsed the website for quite awhile, and then found the perfect project.

I chose this as my son recently got his Bachelor’s Degree from SFSU, in Cinema. Stop Motion Animation is his specialty, and I wanted to help the students in case they decide to follow this career path too!

It was super easy to make a donation. At the end of the transaction, you have the choice to let the students write thank you notes to you, which I did.

It is really mind boggling to me how our children in school don’t seem to be a top priority. They SHOULD have everything they need, and the teachers should too. The kids are our future!   1. I love getting drinks at sonic – but when I want a meal I tend to get the sonic burger with mustard, tots and a vanilla Dr. Pepper. Man I’m hungry now…

  37. I have to say my all time favorite Sonic item is their slushies. I have loved them since I was a little girl and it used to be a big treat to stay with my grandparents and they would take us to Sonic to get them.

  197. I like to visit Sonic during Happy Hour. I usually get a vanilla rootbeer or a cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper. My kids like the slushes with cand.
