I found a package sitting at our door.  I knew right away what was inside.

Have you heard of Matilda Jane Clothing (MJC)?  I’d like to start by giving a little information about MJC before I get to my review in case you haven’t.

Denise DeMarchis is founder and CEO of Matilda Jane Clothing (MJC), a kitchen table startup that quickly grew into a national children’s clothing business. Since the age of 12, Denise has held a passion for art and design and spent a decade showcasing her painted furniture and clothing line at regional art fairs before launching MJC with its core values of heart, loyalty and extreme generosity. Denise was recently named one of Fort Wayne, Indiana’s Top 40 Under 40.    In building MJC Denise wanted to be able to help connect people though her designs – colorful, timeless, and playful ensembles that are age-appropriate and help reflect the personality of the child.  One customer wrote to say that each piece of clothing in MJC’s collections “represents love, joy, and happiness … three gifts you always give, all the time, to my child and our family.”  After seeing the clothing in person that I received I completely agree!

We received items from the Serendipity Collection.  The first thing that you will notice when you open the box is the extra special touches that make this company stand out.  Each piece of clothing is shipped in a pretty tulle bag with MJC’s logo.  My girls love these bags and asked to keep them.  We were also very excited to see exactly what was inside each of them.

The labels that come with each garment is attached by the most adorable safety pin.  I know that I can’t be the only one that goes crazy over the little things.  I was smitten and my girls hadn’t even tried anything on yet.

“WOW!” said Ruby.

“Is that for us?” asked Violet

All I could manage was *Squee!!*

Matilda Jane Clothing mixes and matches fabrics and interesting embellishments, such as buttons and bows, to create completely unique pieces.  These are not items that you will ever find in stores.  The collection for spring is just gorgeous!  The pants we were sent could either go with the halter top or it would look equally as fun with the checked shirt.  When a company makes it easy for my girls to go to their closet and choose clothing that they love and it just goes together beautifully I am thrilled!  MJC makes clothing that is different and stands out and I have adored everything I have seen from them.

girls skirts

Our middle daughter received from Matilda Jane Clothing, the Veronica Tank and Cotton Candy Tutu.  The pink bow on the Veronica Tank coordinates with the green on the tutu perfectly to make this an outfit any princess will squeal with delight while twirling and dancing.  The green tulle is soft and fluffy making it an immediate favorite around our house.

unique girls dresses

Our little one got the Confetti Dress.  You will notice the pretty buttons, drop waist, and ruffles right away but then turn the dress around and you have an unexpected piece of knit material with contrasting stripes.  The baby loves the buttons and they were very easy for her to do “all by myself”.  Our girl will wear this for her 3rd birthday next week but also for tea parties with her sister and park dates.  It is just darling dressed up or down!

Our oldest was treated to the Bowie Roundabout Top and Sweet Pea Leggings.  The halter top is beautiful in person and paired with the leggings is probably my favorite outfit.  My girl doesn’t wear a lot of dresses anymore and this was perfect for her.  It was frilly and comfortable and I have no doubt that this will be her go to outfit when given the choice.  The leggings can be worn long or capri style so we have some growing room which is another thing I love about Matilda Jane Clothing.  You can get years out of outfits and not just months.

Looking around MJC’s website is dreamy.  Spend some time with your daughter and a wish list will surely be started, for you too!  MJC’s women’s collection looks comfortable and stylish.  They change their lookbook every few weeks or whenever the collection is updated so there is always something new to see. Matilda Jane Clothing hasn’t left the boys out and you can find some adorable pieces for them as well.

I found sizing to be very true for each of my children.  I felt that high quality materials were used in the garments and they are very solidly constructed.  In fact, someday I know that our youngest will wear that beautiful halter top that is being coveted by my oldest at the moment.  It was a pleasure for me to write this review.  The special touches by MJC really made me feel appreciated and special.  The clothing had my girls giddy when they were wearing it because it was so pretty and fun.  Finally, the quality of the materials made their mama know she will be a repeat customer.

They give back!
A key guiding principle at MJC is the company’s strong focus on “extreme generosity” and random acts of kindness. As an extension of MJC’s desire to give back (such as to various children’s charities and orphanages, or the company’s pledge with Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a deserving family), the company also actively involves its customers in ongoing charitable giving efforts – most recently, Matilda Jane Clothing asked customers where to donate in its “Spread the Love” initiative. The annual campaign involved surprise giveaways to 100+ deserving families, as well as smaller giveaways to 300 individuals, a $50,000 expression of MJC’s heartfelt thanks to its loyal customer base. Despite MJC’s strong online presence – more than 40,000 Facebook fans, a thriving blog, and a website that attracts more than 70,000 unique visitors monthly, the company has bucked the trend and chosen not to have an e-commerce store. MJC sales are made directly though a Trunk Keeper, a representative who gets to know her customers personally. The exclusive sale of clothing by Trunk Keepers is a wonderful direct selling model through which Denise is able to pay forward business opportunities for entrepreneurial women driven by creativity and relationship building.

The very generous folks at Matilda Jane have also so kindly let us host a giveaway!
