Rest & Relax with Advil PM and the New SleepHelp App

We went to a concert the other night and when we finally got home and into bed, I could not sleep for the life of me. I ended up playing games on my cell phone, working on new articles for all of you, staring at the clock, the ceiling, the wall, you name it. I even tried the sheep thing to no avail. It was not fun. As horrible as it was, luckily, I don’t have to suffer through it on a nightly basis. There are nights when I swear that I have restless leg syndrome because, in my terms, my legs feel like they want to run. However, going for a jog in the middle of the night is not exactly on my to-do list. Bugging for a massage usually gets me to sleep after this but it’s not that easy for everyone.

Did you know that aches and pains were cited as the top reason for the lack of a good night’s sleep? I’d say that is pretty much spot on and the 2012 study in which these findings were recorded would agree. Would you? Thankfully an old medicine cabinet favorite brand is here to help.

Advil PM

Advil PM, of course, has become a favorite in and of itself for those that suffer from sleeplessness. The thing that many don’t know about Advil PM is that, on top of its ability to help you sleep, it is also (true to its name) a pain reliever. With the classic powers of Advil’s non-habit forming pain relieving and, now, the gentle sleep aid, this is a wonderful addition to your bedtime routine.

Adding to their family of great products, Advil PM has recently entered the digital world by releasing a coinciding app. The SleepHelp app works alongside Advil PM to help you get a better night’s rest and assists you in tackling common sleep issues. Snoring problems and trouble with noisy partners are just two of the many topics covered in the app. It also provides you with a ton of essential tips, all rated by actual users, to help you through every stage of sleep. From winding down before you hit the sheets to getting through the morning after a difficult night’s sleep, the SleepHelp app has you covered. Some popular tips include:

  • How to handle noisy partners
  • How to create a sleep oasis
  • The ideal temperature for sleeping
  • What types of food can help you sleep
  • Why you should sing if you snore
  • And more!

With the Advil PM SleepHelp app, you can also better understand your own personal sleep habits. Everyone has their own unique patterns and routines and this app helps you to get more out of your days by becoming more aware and understanding of your own body. The in-app alarm provides you with Wind Down Alerts and recommended sleep times based on your set waking time. Think of it as parents setting a bed time for their children. We all know that sleep is a necessity and, of course, good sound sleep is preferred. However, we often overlook these obvious points when it comes to ourselves. The SleepHelp app and Advil PM are here to fix that.

  1. I think the tip about resolving/straightening out my neck pain would be the most beneficial to me. It really bothers me and I only sleep for 1-2 hours at a time.

  2. The best tip I have is to use a timer on the television. I have to go to sleep with it on, but I don’t sleep well if it stays on during the night.

  3. If you’re waking up during the night to use the bathroom, stop drinking fluids two to three hours before bedtime. Also, taking a quick trip to the bathroom just before bed can reduce the chance of you needing to get up during the night.

  4. If you find yourself awake and counting sheep into six figures, it’s time for another trick. After 15 to 30 minutes of lying in bed awake, get out of bed. Avoid turning on bright lights, and find something calming to do, such as listening to music or reading.

  5. What works for me is leaving a fan running on low.I am a very light sleeper so the background noise of a fan blocks any other noise that might otherwise wake me up.

    1. To help you get a full night’s sleep, use a pillow that’s designed to keep your neck aligned to reduce the risk of pain.

  6. I have learned that Hip-buttock stretch: Lie on back with feet on the floor and legs bent at a 45-degree angle. Grasp back of left thigh near knee, and gently pull legs toward chest, feeling a stretch in right hip and buttock. Hold for three deep breaths. Switch legs, and repeat.

  7. I like Advil’s sleep tip: Straighten out neck pain

For a sound sleep, you’ll need a pillow designed to keep your neck aligned and reduce the risk of pain. Look for pillows with memory foam that molds around your head and neck, keeping your neck aligned with your spine—the optimal position for comfortable sleep. Foam pillows will also keep their shape longer over time, unlike feather fills.

  8. The tip that would help me most is establish a routine! I usually stay up after I put the kids to bed to tidy up, do some dishes, etc. and always end up going to bed anywhere between midnight and 2 am…

  10. I have a 14 month old who still wakes during the night, so I am surviving on little sleep! The best tip I read was to take short nap!

  11. Move to snooze
If you find yourself awake and counting sheep into six figures, it’s time for another trick. After 15 to 30 minutes of lying in bed awake, get out of bed. Avoid turning on bright lights, and find something calming to do, such as listening to music or reading.

  12. According to the Sleep Tips, when I wake up during the night, I should get up and do something relaxing until I feel sleepy again. Good advice–I’ll give it a try.

  13. My favorite tip is -For a sound sleep, you’ll need a pillow designed to keep your neck aligned and reduce the risk of pain

  14. Establish a routine. A regular bedtime and wake time helps. Avoid caffeine and bright light before bedtime.

  15. My favorite sleep tip is to take about 15 minutes (at least ONE hour BEFORE bed), and use that time to go over all the things that are worrying you from the day. This way, they’re out of the way, and you’ve done your mandatory worrying before you get ready for bed.

  16. I think the tip of making the room darker would help. I honestly took a good look around and there are SO SO many little lights on…. the TV has a little indicator light on it- the battery charger is lit up the router has lights blinking the CLOCK omg that clock has to GO just go. It IS too bright.

  17. i think the tip about snoring and using a full-length body pillow as support for sleeping on your side can help prevent this

  18. For me to sleep well, it’s important that it be dark, especially in the morning. I’ve been known to put a pillow over my face to block out the light!

  19. Here’ s the tip I like:

    Move to snooze

  20. My best sleep tip:

Drink a non-caffinated drink like Tea or warm milk before bedtime to help relax

    callawishes(at)hotmail(dot)com

  21. I am drinking so much water in an effort to eat healthier, unfortunately that is keeping me up all night using the bathroom! So stop drinking 2-3 hours before bedtime seems like a good tip to help me get the rest I need.

  22. this tip would probably help – After 15 to 30 minutes of lying in bed awake, get out of bed. Avoid turning on bright lights, and find something calming to do, such as listening to music or reading

  23. For myself (and my husband who suffers from Torticollis), the most beneficial tip would be to straighten out neck pain. We need to find a memory foam pillow that helps align the neck and spine to prevent future problems.

  24. My favorite tip from the site is to Breathe Deep. That is actually one of the methods I use to try to fall asleep/

  25. My best sleep tip (and this is coming from someone who works overnights and sleeps during the day) is to make your bed your sanctuary. ONLY sleep in your bed, nothing else (no reading, no tv watching, nothing). That way when you do lay in bed your body knows that it is time for sleep.

  26. I have trouble falling asleep/ staying asleep I think due to stress. the advil site recommended that I breathe slowly and deeply. This sounds promising, I will be sure to try it out tonight 🙂

  27. Establish a routine…here is where I have a problem. Go to bed at different times. I don’t really have a soothing nightly routine. Need to work on that!

  28. I am nocturnal so sleep for me is just about impossible. I make sure not to take naps during the day, I also turn off the lights over an hour before I intend to turn off the tv and try to sleep. I also make sure to keep it quiet, no lights are allowed on and I think about happy things in my life. I have a lot of stress in my life.

  29. Definitely taking care of pain is the best tip for me. I am always in pain as I have a lot of conditions and without the proper pain meds I won’t be able to sleep at all.

  30. Don’t Let the Light In

To prevent any light from disturbing your sleep, these tips may help. If your alarm clock glows, turn it away. Remove the nightlight if you use one. Cover all charging or battery indicators. Turn off all computer, TV or phone screens. Install some curtains or blinds in the bedroom to keep the outside light from shining in. And if that’s not an option, use an eye mask.

Most helpful for me is to use an eye mask.

  31. I liked Creating a bedroom environment conducive to sleep will help you get into slumber mode. You can help condition yourself for sleep by tapping into your body’s internal clock

  32. Establish a routine – I think this is an area that I really need to pursue – right now things are really haphazard right before bedtime.

  33. I think one of the sleep help tips from the Advil site that would be most beneficial to me currently is to get earplugs that can provide an effective way to keep out any unwanted noise.

  34. The Move to snooze
If you find yourself awake and counting sheep into six figures, it’s time for another trick. After 15 to 30 minutes of lying in bed awake, get out of bed. Avoid turning on bright lights, and find something calming to do, such as listening to music or reading.

  35. I like the one where if you can’t fall asleep get up and read a book or listen to comforting music and then try and go asleep again.

  36. For me it is getting out of bed if after 15-30 minutes I cannot fall asleep. I like to go outside on our porch and just listen to the crickets and completely relaxing,

  37. I like the tip for side sleepers to prevent pain. The tip suggest putting a pillow between your knees and thighs to support your upper leg and prevent your lower spine from rotating and causing hip or back pain.

  38. Some of my sleep issues is my boyfriend. He is a snorer and when he sleeps on his back, it’s worse. So, I just give him a quick elbow ;), he rolls over and the snoring stops.

  39. establishing a routine might help me – it’s hard when you have kids to get to bed the same time every night. I need to stop doing so much!

  40. I LOVE melatonin. It’s the most natural thing I’ve found to help me fall asleep & stay asleep without feeling like garbage the next day.

  41. Straighten out neck pain

  42. The best tip for me is using a timer for my television because i need the television sound to fall asleep and waste alot of electricity by not turnimg it off til morning

  43. The sound machine! I used this for my oldest two daughters when they were little….guess I should get it back out for myself, huh?

  44. dvil® PM combines a pain reliever with a gentle sleep aid to help you sleep better. When aches and pains keep you up, Advil® PM helps you get to sleep faster and stay asleep longer for hours of restful sleep

  45. Breathe deep
Slow, deep abdominal breathing may help reduce anxiety and help you wind down for bed. With your tongue resting on the roof of your mouth just behind your upper teeth, exhale completely. Close your mouth, and inhale through your nose for four counts. Hold your breath for seven counts. Then exhale while mentally counting to eight. Repeat this cycle three more times.

  46. Try not to snore yourself awake. LOL that’s probably my husband as well. Using a full body pillow to keep yourself on your side as you tend to snore more on your back. That’s helpful information.

  47. my best tip for sleep is use a fan for white noise, put tv on with sleep timer, get a body pillow and sleep mask that works for me everynight

  48. Straighten out neck pain. My current pillow is a memory foam one that needs replacing. However, when I first bought it, I had the best sleep ever!

  49. My own sleep tip: If I’m unable to relax, I tighten every muscle I can for 10 seconds, release, then 20 seconds, release, then 30 seconds. After 30 seconds of tension, I can zonk out pretty easily.
