We have about twelve photo albums full of pictures taken since my oldest daughter was born. There are also about 300 pictures on the computer, waiting to be printed and added to new albums. In looking through all of these pictures, I realized that I am not in even a quarter of them. Most of the ones that I am in were those that were set up, like a posed family picture. I am in very few of the candid everyday pictures that we take, where we see the girls doing something funny or cute and grab the camera to capture the moment.
Sprout (the television channel with nothing but fun children’s programming) has launched a
#MomIsHere campaign on Instagram to encourage moms to be a part of those everyday moments preserved in a picture. Those moments come and go by so fast, and Sprout wants moms to not only take pictures of their children, but also to be included in the pictures themselves.
Sprout also wants moms to realize that real life is not always perfect. Fun moments may occur when moms do not have their hair or makeup perfectly done, or when they are not dressed up. Those moments need to be captured just the same though, and maybe even more so because they show what life is really like for moms (rarely glamorous or perfect). I am guilty of using filters every time I share a picture on Instagram. However, Sprout is asking moms to “lose the filter” and just post their candid photos without using any filters.
Participating in the campaign is really easy. All you have to do is capture a fun moment with your children by taking a picture with them. Then share the photo on Instagram with the hashtags #MomIsHere and #NoFilter30. The campaign is running now through Mother’s Day (May 10). Sprout is randomly selecting winners every week for fun prizes, and there is a grand prize drawing for anyone sharing a picture every day for thirty days.
Remember that you do not have to post any special type of picture – just post anything showing you and your children having fun or enjoying life. I love nothing more than having my girls sitting in my lap and snuggling, and those are the moments I want to preserve because I know someday they won’t be doing it any longer. And even after Mother’s Day passes and the campaign ends, I am going to try to remember to keep taking pictures with my girls instead of just taking pictures of them. Someday we will look back on those pictures and remember the good times that we all had.
