This weekend I had a special surprise for my daughter. I had her sit down and get comfy…and handed her my iPad. *gasp* The Mother Company sent me their newest book, When Miles Got Mad, for her to read before it was even available in stores. My little bookworm was down right giddy!
Like most children, she has challenges sometimes working through feelings. The tough feelings in particular; feeling frustrated, disappointed, left out, or mad is hard to process. Heck, no one at any age likes those feelings. But I think it is important for her to recognize what she is feeling and why… then hopefully come to a resolution. Talking rather than shutting down and stomping off {which is her usual way of reacting}.
When Miles Got Mad is a book that addresses precisely that approach to angry feelings. I can hear the cliché phrase, “Use your words” in my head. Cliché, but helpful. Talking it out has proven to help her time and time again… and her whole demeanor changes once she’s vented and we’ve worked out what she is mad about. Finally, we can find a resolution to the problem.
After she had finished reading the book aloud, I asked her a few questions…Don’t worry! No spoilers.
Why was Miles mad?
Because Max {his brother} broke his airplane.
What was your favorite part of the story? And why?
When Max broke his airplane. Why? Because I loved it.
Simply put. She loved it and can’t wait to add it to her bookshelf next to her other Ruby’s Studio books! I am thankful for The Mother Company sending Luv a sneak peek of When Miles Got Mad. Especially as an older sister now she’ll be able to relate to Miles. I hope she will find that talking through her feelings gets easier.
Mark your calendars! When Miles Got Mad will be released April 16th!
You’ll be able to snag a copy for your little one{s} at The Mother Company website. And we will be giving away a book right here at Eighty MPH Mom – Don’t miss it!

That sounds like a cute story! Great pictures.
Thank you for the review. As much as I love that books entertain children and help spark their imaginations, I also love it when books help teach children about feelings and “life” in general.
I agree. Sometimes it’s hard for younger children to not only identify the feelings they are having, but also how to deal with them in an appropriate manner.
My kids are too old for this book (they are teenagers and we all know how well teenagers deal with emotions – ha ha), however I have younger nieces and nephews. I’m going ot recommend this book for them.
I agree with you! It is so important for kids to know how to deal with a wide range of emotions!
What a sweet review! I’m going to have to download this for my kids to read on the iPad! Thanks for the great review, Erin!
With my daughter being only 4 and her being on medication that gives her some pretty wild mood swings, you bet your bottom that I’m going to get this book! I need all the help I can get these days!
Love it. I have a 2 year old who is still at the cute stage of getting mad. But I know that doesn’t last long.
This sounds like a great book to read my grandson. He will get mad at his little brother but he doen’t know how to express it so he just ends up throwing toys!
Perfect timing – my granddaughter has reached what they cal the ‘terrible twos’ and I’m sure she must have read somewhere what that behavior entails – ’cause she’s got it down pat!
I love the look on her face! Priceless! I think it is great to start kids learning about their emotions at an early age!
