American Girl Magazine: November/December Highlights!

American Girl Magazine is the most popular magazine for girls ages 8-12, and while Luv is “only” five she absolutely loves reading her magazine when it comes. This time when I saw the November/December issue in our mailbox, I knew it would be all about wintry fun!

Since some features don’t necessarily apply to our family, we focused on the general winter crafts and . We’ve grown accustomed to working around Christmas and focusing on the season itself.

Here is Luv’s favorite feature in this issue:

Holiday Head to Toe

With just a few simple supplies and steps, girls can add a bit of fashionable flair to their existing wardrobe. I just knew Luv would want to do these…

Luv’s thoughts as she read:

I like the gloves and how you can put little pom poms on them. I want to make the skirt with the fluff under it. That’s cute. I want to make these with you, Momma!

We will definitely be hitting up the craft store for these supplies. Such a fun and inexpensive craft!

For the girls out there who do celebrate Christmas, this issue has so many great gift ideas, delicious treats, and more! Girls can also learn tips on how to be savvy shoppers and navigate the malls safely and kindly.

  1. I sure wish they had this magazine when I was a girl. It looks like a great one for tweens and there are so few out here for them. Makes me wish I had a girl the right age now!

  2. When I was a girl I had an adopted aunt who made doll clothes for me and also gave me a subscription to this magazine. It was special to me, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a loved one in this age group!

  3. I never even knew about his magazine before, I think it will be great for my step daughter next year. Thank you.

  4. I’m sure I would’ve loved this magazine! I would’ve loved the stories about girls and their dogs mentioned on the cover!

  5. I have one granddaughter who has an American Girl doll and I think would love this magazine. It would give her something to look forward to knowing she would be receiving this as well. Glad you shared

  6. I know I’m probably weird, but I don’t believe this would’ve even interested me as a little girl. I was more of a tomboy… sorry, too foofy for me.

    1. Ha! Not weird at all. I can appreciate the tomboy perspective. My daughter is what I call a rough and tumble girly girl. She loves bugs and dirt and wrestling but likes the “girly” stuff, too 🙂

  7. This is the best magazine ever! My daughter loves it. As soon as it arrives she will read it front to back. It is a good clean magazine that you don’t have to worry about your kids reading.

  8. I am going to get a subscription for my granddaughter who is very much into American Girls. I think she would enjoy making the crafts and just looking at all the beautiful pictures.

  9. I never heard of the magazine before your post. I know my niece loves American girl so this would make a great gift.

  10. I know my oldest would love reading this magazine and especially enjoy the Sparkly Craft ideas from this issue. Definitely considering this as a present for her this year. I know my little one will enjoy the crafty ideas too!

  11. I have one granddaughter that wouldn’t like this, but the other one would be in heaven,,she is all girlygirl anloves AmericanGirl

  12. My Great Niece has a big collection of the American Girl Dolls….she just loves them & the fun wardrobe! I know she would love to get the magazine as well….hmmmm Christmas Idea!!!!!

  13. Love the ideas of crafting. Even though it is geared to girls my sons would love to try a lot of crafts!

  14. this is great for mature children . I do not think I’d ever had this until the teen years. this is great for them to have

  15. I am going to get a subscription for my granddaughter. It would encourage her to read more and that is what we all want.

  16. I was a tomboy also when I was a kid.I did not like ANYTHING girly.I was happy climbing trees and playing with bugs and frogs.I did grow out of that though lol.I haven’t heard of this mag before but it looks like a great one for girls!

  17. This sounds like it could make a great gift. Often I send magazine subscriptions as a gift to give all year.

  18. When I first saw this post, I was afraid that American Girl would be overwhelmingly cutsey. And although it is somewhat cutsey (sparkly crafts aren’t the only thing girls can make), but I have to say I’m relieved so see that the girl pictured on the cover is NOT wearing pink or purple! I don’t think I could live with a little girl nowadays, because it seems that everything marketed to them is pink and/or purple. Ugh!

Thanks for the review. I’ll keep this in mind for gifts in the future.
