In the spirit of full disclosure, let me start by saying that my daughter doesn’t know Ms. Frizzle from her big toe. Even after I reminded her of The Magic School Bus Weather Station kit we put together {that she still uses and loves}! So she’s not hip on The Magic School Bus. At all. But that didn’t stop her from getting excited when The Magic School Bus Exploring the Wonders of Nature arrived on our front porch! Her eyes darted around the box, anticipating what was in store for her. It was moments before her unrelenting curiosity finally caved. She wanted to dive in immediately. And so we did.
The Magic School Bus Exploring the Wonders of Nature
This kit includes the key supplies needed for a slew of experiments and activities dealing with the great outdoors. From making an ant farm to building a bug house. I love kits like this! Kids are unplugged, exploring, learning, creating, and having fun!
There is a guidebook included that outlines each activity and/or experiment and prompts in depth discussions for older kids, younger kids will still have much to say about what happens during these hands on activities though! Luv certainly did!
First, I sent her on a hunt for leaves and flowers for Wanda’s sun print art experiment. We talked about how the sun keeps us warm, helps plants make food, but also how its ultraviolet wavelengths can cause chemical reactions.
Luv’s Scientific Summary:
We put a leaf, helicopter, and flower on some paper and it left its shadow from the sun.

A simple, but fun way to show kids how the sun’s UV rays fade color. I could also show her this using cloth diapers, but sun print art is undeniably more appealing to her. *wink*
Next, we looked at Phoebe’s experiment. This was the coolest! Even The Mister geeked out over this one. How can we see the inside of an egg without breaking it? Luv helped me fill a Mason jar half way with distilled white vinegar, she carefully placed a raw egg inside, and screwed the lid down. She immediately noticed the bubbles {that is carbon dioxide, by the way}. We let our experiment sit overnight, replaced the vinegar each morning, and made note of changes we saw. The shell gradually got softer and by day four it had gotten bigger!
Luv’s Scientific Summary:
We put an egg in a jar full of vinegar. It grew bigger and then the vinegar ate the shell! It was so cool. And kinda gross.
The Mister has not seen this experiment done before, but I did in school. Touching a “shell-less” egg blew his mind and I felt super smart while telling him about it. That is always a nice feeling. We talked about what happened with Luv. We also took time to discuss the color of the yolk and what it means when the yolk is orange vs. pale yellow. That’s also a nutrition lesson, folks! *wink*
The experiments we have completed so far were a treat and I can’t wait to do the Scavenger Hunt so we can start the rest {we are waiting for the weather to cooperate – ahem}!

Wow! That looks like a lot of fun! I LOVE science experiments! I bet my nephew would love this!
I have always loved the Magic Schoolbus and these experiments are absolutely the coolest. That one with the egg has me fascinated. These are something that I would most def buy as the price is right!
We did the egg experiment a few weeks ago… it was supposed to be a blog post, but I accidentally erased the video. Apparently, you can drop it and it bounces… but ours just dropped and broke!
My Nephew is just turning 5 and he is obsessed with ‘experiments’ – this sounds like something that would be right up his alley!!
It looks like a lot of fun, I’m very intrigued by the egg experiment. I’ve never even seen that before. Thanks.
Oh my, I’ve never seen that egg experiment before! I’m not a kid, but I think I’m going to have to try that one! LOL!
This sounds like so much fun for kids!

Wow that is awesome! I wanted to try the experiment where you put the bar of soap in the microwave~! When I Was a kid we would put empty chip bags in the microwave and they would spark and then shrink into little mini bags. So coo!
Looks fun! My son would love this
i loved science kits as a child! a great and fun way to learn
I’m laughing about the sun prints versus the diapers, this is wonderful! What a great way to incorporate lessons in a very real and meaningful – and not the least – fun way! Also, parents – don’t wait for your kids to ask for it, once they see it and try it, then they will luv it!!!
That seems pretty cool. I used to love Mrs. Frizzle and the gang when I was in school too!

This looks like a blast I love this kind of stuff thanks for posting this one and have a great day.
My son loves the magic school bus
This is so cool! I wish I had something like this when my kids were small. They both love science and would have been all over this. Not to mention it’s a great price for all the stuff they learn.
It looks totally fun! I’d love to try it with my son.
The kids would love this!
Used to watch Mr. Wizard on TV (like 50 years ago) and loved seeing the experiments.
Yes, I call maple seeds helicopters.
I never did the egg experiment before but we will be doing it with the kids after school tonight.
That looks like a lot of fun.
I am a Biology/chemistry major and my interest sparked from watching shows like the magic school bus. All of these things are interesting and great for kids. Love this.
