Festive Rice Krispie Treats
Sticky, messy, and oh-so good. I am talking about Rice Krispie Treats of course! These classic favorites are so versatile, and I decided to “spruce” mine up a bit for the holidays.
You can find the original Rice Krispie Treats recipe on the Rice Krispie’s website.
I will admit, this was very messy and I had to move really quickly, which is always the case (for me at least) when making these goodies. My best advice is to get your pans greased and bowls, pre-measure your rice krispies, food coloring, etc. all ready before even starting this recipe. What I did was made two batches and divided each. Since I had to work with the melted marshmallows rather quickly, I divided the gooey melted marshmallows into two bowls, added green food coloring to one, red to the other. I stirred until the colors were thoroughly blended, then I mixed in the pre-measured rice krispies into each bowl.
Here is a little tip: Apply butter to the bottom of two large spoons, to prevent the mixture from sticking when you are pressing it down.
I divided the red rice krispie mixture into the three aluminum pans and pressed each down. I then did the same with the green mixture. I then made another full batch, and divided them, added the food coloring and layered the same way. This time though, I divided the green first, into the three pans. I then topped them off with red.
After I finished the top layer, I let them sit for a bit to cool off and form. I gently eased them out of the foil pans onto a cutting board and cut each into 1″ slices.
These Festive Rice Krispie Treats are fun and tasty gift ideas for the holiday season. When you make them in foil loaf pans, you can simply add a label on and give them to deserving people 🙂
Enjoy!
