Tillamook Ice Cream review

September 4, 2012 by Jennifer 52 Comments

tillamook ice cream

Tillamook is a name I’ve known for years and years. Tillamook cheese is one of my favorites, and when I want a quality cheese, their brand is what I head for first at the grocery store. Imagine my surprise when I found out that there is now Tillamook Premium ice cream!

Is Tillamook Ice Cream Good?

I think the reason that the quality of their products is so good, is that their standards are high. Tillamook believes that healthy cows produce the best milk (which goes without saying, of course), but they never use artificial growth hormones and they test each batch to make sure it is of the highest quality. This is apparent to me, not only in their cheeses, but in their decadent ice creams as well.

tillamook ice cream,marionberry,

I was sent an assortment of Tillamook Ice Cream to try – my family, of course, was delighted!

What is the best Tillamook Ice Cream flavor?

Well that is a tricky question for sure.  We were sent 5 delicious flavors, and we thoroughly enjoyed them all.  Everyone has their own preference of course but if you were to ask me, I would say that the best Tillamook Ice Cream flavor is Oregon Strawberry.
Oregon Strawberry – Chunks of juicy Oregon-grown strawberries bursting from a stage of sweet, creamy strawberry ice cream. I really, really liked this flavor – it was not overly sweet, but any sweetness there was tasted fresh and natural. The strawberries were not “mushy” as they are in some ice cream brands.  If I am going to eat an ice cream in a fruit flavor, I want it to taste like real, fresh fruit. I don’t want artificial flavors or a bunch of added sugars. I want to taste fresh strawberries!

Tillamook Ice Cream review flavors

Marionberry Pie – Rich vanilla ice cream with stripes of fresh Oregon Marionberry and pieces of pie crust. Tillamook Marionberry ice cream was developed as a nod of respect to this Oregon born berry. Now this isn’t an ice cream flavor you see just anywhere. What a treat! Oregon is known for it’s plump berries, so here is your chance to try them if you never have before.

Tillamook Mudslide – Rich chocolate ice cream, chocolate fudge pieces and a thick, creamy fudge ripple is an ice cream for the ultimate ice cream connoisseur! According to Tillamook, “Mudslide is an acknowledgement of the rainy place that delicious dairy products come from”. If you love chocolate (as most of us do), this is quite satisfying and will take care of that sweet tooth!

Udderly Chocolate – White chocolate and milk chocolate ice cream both take center stage with a show-stopping flurry of chocolate flakes. I really enjoyed this ice cream, as sometimes I can’t decide if I want chocolate or vanilla. I can enjoy both with Tillamook Udderly Chocolate ice cream. Here is a little tip on making your own Tillamook ice cream creations – mix a little of this with the Oregon Strawberry and you’ll have your own Tillamook Neapolitan ice cream {at least until they make their own Neapolitan – please hurry guys!}.

Vanilla Bean – Tillamook took America’s favorite ice cream flavor and filled it with loads of real crushed vanilla beans. It’s the vanilla ice cream that can stand on its own. Sometimes, when I don’t want too much “going on” with my ice cream, I enjoy just a plain bowl of vanilla ice cream. Tillamook Vanilla Bean ice cream fits the bill perfectly. It is so flavorful and rich, and there is no need for add-ins or toppings.

All of the flavors of ice cream that I received were rich and creamy. I didn’t taste anything “artificial” or sugary sweet. Just quality through and through. Mmmm look:

In addition to the flavors I received, Tillamook Ice Cream is also available in other mouth-watering flavors, such as Vanilla Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Sticky Bun (oh my), Banana Split, Caramel Butter Pecan, Caramel Toffee Crunch, Coffee Almond Fudge, Grandma’s Cake Batter, Strawberry Cheesecake and so many more.

There are plenty of ice cream companies on the market, but for me it is all about quality as well as flavor. Tillamook Ice Cream is definitely something to write home about, and ice cream that you will be proud to serve to friends and family (or just a little midnight snack for yourself, if you don’t want to share).

Did you know that there are Tillamook Ice Cream Sandwiches now too? I haven’t tried them yet, but they are on my list. I still have plenty of other Tillamook ice cream flavors to try.

My husband went to the store and bought the Marionberry – all it was was vanilla ice cream with chunks of pie crust no Marionberry. He also bought Rocky Road which was very good.

That’s my complaint as well–the berry stripes were minimally dispersed and not very thick. If you really want to show off the flavor of the berry, then it should be the primary flavor, like strawberry icecream as an example. Instead, the primary flavor is vanilla. The pie crust pieces had a strong almond extract flavor, not to say that is bad. I have had their farm style non-fat marionberry Greek yogurt and that is pretty good as far as a non-fat yogurt goes. All of the farm style flavors a very good IMO. Not too syrupy sweet.

Man, I remember loving the marionberry – but the beautiful thing about Tillamook Ice cream was it was all good. I’m normally a chocolate girl – but the fruit flavors were amazing.

My favorite used to be the Mudslide. However, recently you came out with new flavors in the pint size and I am so IN LOVe with you SALTED CARAMEL TOFFEE-it is truly the most delicious ice cream I have ever indulged in. No shorting of the caramel or toffee whatsoever. I have tried them all and this is most definitely the best ice cream I have ever eaten!
